New to this forum! I have a Yanmar 4220 greymarket tractor, 46hp. I believe it to be around a 1985 model. The engine seized, talking to a mechanic, he believes an injector stuck open, washed a cylinder of oil and a ring twisted or broke or possibly a wrist pin. Engine model # is 3T84T, I am looking for a rebuilt shortblock to get this running again. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Bummer to hear about the trouble.

The YM4220 has the 3T84T-N engine. The YM3810 has the 3T84T engine. It's the closest Gray Market engine sibling and closest Hp match up you can find. The 'T' in the engine model only states the engine is capable of using a TURBO. Yanmar engines with OE turbo setup are sleeved engines. Note this when searching for an engine replacement.

Now, the Yanmar US/Canada domestic sold machine YM336 has the SAME engine, 3T84A-N. So, an engine rebuild kit can be ordered. There are not many YM336 parts tractors.

At the YTOG, we have plenty of the Yanmar model parts manuals. From there, you can determine what engines are direct swap out-in with very little work to be done. The YTOG also has suppliers for complete engines, some used as salvaged and others specificaly restored to like new condition with all new internals. The UTDA Fredricks Importing does this reather well and is with a Yanmar USA agreement to do so.

Wet sleeved on a 4220 so as long as you didn't bust the Block you can get parts. Machine shop can repair the crank shaft most likely if it's damaged. I'm showing Sleeve and Rings WS-85 fredricks.....
