I don't post much, but check in often for inforamtion - thanks guys

Figured I'd add a few

Couple different trucks and trailers - Same tractor

Andy

Andy, that is quite a load on the Ram! How much weight is that roughly? Is that a 4500? I didn't even know you could get the 4500 in a quad cab long bed... Did you buy the cab-chassis and put the bed on? That's quite the truck, it even has a sunroof, Nice!

Thank you!! Excavator is roughly 7K - Tractor is right at 4.5K - Trailer is somewhere around 8K - So I was running down the road approx 18-19K. Truck is just a little 2500. I've had a considerable amount more weight on the trailer before, but I prefer to keep my load under 20K when I've got more than about 250miles to travel.

Wow, that looked like a 4 on the "2500" badge. That truck has a tow capacity of about 13,250lbs and you have 18-19k behind it!
Glad we don't drive the same roads...

I'm suprised you haven't broken anything major on that truck hauling that much weight that far. I feel for your leaf springs.

Actually if you look at his pic the truck is sitting fairly level. The trailer looks to be carrying the full weight of the excavator along with a good portion of the tractor weight. Still more than should probably be hauled with a 3/4 ton.

I did look up the tow ratings and found it odd that Dodge did not list a different tow rating for a fifth wheel/gooseneck compared to conventional tow (bumper). Using an 05 as an example - Dodge only list the tow rating as 13,100 for cab and 4wd. My Ford F250 regular cab powerstroke on the other hand list two different ratings - one for conventional towing at 12,500 lbs and list 5th wheel towing at 15,900 lbs.

I can tell you that I've towed 10,000 lbs using a 20' bumper pull and have towed 15,000 lbs using a 24' gooseneck. There is absolutely no comparison. I sold the bumper and now only use a gooseneck.

Just got the trailer that I ordered. A Load Trail 20 foot flat deck car hauler adapter for dual use with the tractor as well. 10,400 GVWR, 8 welded D rings, Smoke grey, spring assist rear ramps. I plan on changing the wheels to alloy, putting a winch and an equipment box on the trailer tongue. I'm also adding Reese Dual Cam weight distribution with sway control.

2007 Ford F150 FX4, 5.4, 3.73 gears.

How's your '03 6.0 worked for you? Some have had problems but I haven't. I've got a cab/chassis flat bed F350 superduty. Looks like those Fords are carrying the mail!:D Was the "wimpy" load on the Chevy your intent?:D
