I was going through some of my notes, and found a chart I had started keeping track of some time ago, documenting PTO speeds for different grey market tractors I own or might encounter. I thought it might be useful to others if I put it up.

I was derelict in my responsibility to keep track of who said what, but most are from Danny Parker, Hoye, Len Sheaffer, and Wayne at LMTC. I also know I have read statements by Mickey FX, Winston, and Service Department Vic. If anybody knows or recognizes the source of the data I'll be appreciative and give credit to the original source. Any additional machines, contrary or supplemental data, or whatever, is welcome. It will be obvious that I simply cut-and-pasted from a Word document to here, after clipping excerpts from forum posts. I apologize for the subsequent appearance.

Thanks 284, I'll try and remember this so I can find it when needed.

According to my manual, the YM2210 PTO speeds are much higher than what you list. I also have the YM1700:

YM2210 w/ engine @ 2200 rpm
1: 540
2: 1000
3: 2200 (engine speed)
4: 2400

YM1700 w/ engine @ 2200 rpm
1: 540
2: 1000
3: 2200 (engine speed)

People periodically ask about reducing engine revs and running the PTO in gear 2. It's not practical, at least for these models. In order to run an implement in PTO #2 and have 540 PTO rpm, you would have to reduce the engine rpm to about 1188! This is for the YM1700 or YM2210 (or any Yanmar model with PTO speed 2 = 1000 @ 2200 rpm.)

Ginormous, that is good to know. I'll add it into the upper part while I can still edit things. I'm surprised the YM1700 is different than the 2000, too.

the list for the YM3000 is the same as YM3110

   / PTO speeds #6
The list for FX24 is the same as my F215 but these speeds are at Max power revs ie 2500 rpm. 540 PTO speed is marked on the tacho and comes at about 2350 rpm

Here is a page out of a 1700/2000 parts manual showing 588,730/1260. I would assume that to be at maximum throttle.

I also have a page out of the 2210 parts manual that is not clear enough to attach here but lists the pto speeds on it as 547,709,929,1232. I would assume that at maximum throttle also.

Not saying these are correct, just saying here it is.

Winston - interesting... I would tend to believe the one in Japanese over the one in English. I'll have to correct my manuals.

I found error in my 2002d operational manual in the same area. I bought a little digital tach to check it out. The numbers 284 is showing are correct for my 2002d but not what it shows in my operational manual. My Japanese parts manual reflects the correct numbers.

YM2200: 465,587,951,1200 From a 2 lever PTO, apparently.

Sticking my nose in sorry 284 but I can answer kenmac's question I have the 3110 operators manual. 540,685,1000,1268 @ 2200 RPM. hth

My tractor is a mystery however I can only guess its the same because I dont have a 3810 manual fwtw.

I've been searching for info regarding the ratio of tractor rpm's to PTO rpm's for my little YM1610-D.

I note that for a 1610 pto#1 is about 540 but what engine speeds for the various pto settings?

   / PTO speeds #13
Without going into detail about the math here is my figuring. 1st range 540pto = 2204rpm, 2nd range 540pto = 1685rpm, 3rd range 540pto = 1167rpm. Doubt that will be off too much.

Probably don't want to invest in one but a Harbor Freight digital tachometer sells for $25. Digital Photo Sensor Tachometer They work good.

Engine speed will be the same 2200~2400 rpm 'PTO speed' regardless of which pto gear you choose. Look for the ticmark on the tachometer somewhere between the standard 2000 and 2500 rpm marks.

You probably know this but - only the Japanese Yanmar tillers (and maybe some other Japanese brands) are able to run at the higher pto speeds. American implements for small tractors are all designed for 540 pto rpm maximum and running them in a faster pto gear is dangerous.

I have a Honda built tiller HTA model TL752A that has a metal tag saying this tiller is designed to turn at 2000 pto rpm's. I have only turned in the lowest rpm gear so far. I may try it in a higher gear next time I use it, just to see how it does at that speed. Will let you know at a later date.

It has been some time since this was updated, but I just found another listing, for the YM1300.

"According to the 1300d parts book I have, my tractor has a 465-771-1296 rpm PTO"

From user dal39b at Hoye's tech forum.

I know you said "grey" but for what it's worth.....my 186d is listed at 540/1000 at 2400rpm.

This is an old tread but thought some extra info wouldn't hurt. Info is from the original parts manual.

FX335, FX335D, FX435, FX435D

All 4 of these have PTO speeds of 558-778-1012-1265

35mm JIS shafts that rotate clockwise

   / PTO speeds #20
For the multi-speed PTO on the YM2610 as follows:

542-685-1005-1268 Per JIS-35

JIS = Japaneses Industrial Standards. Sort of like ASTM or SAE.

Top engine rpm is 2990, but it you mess with the set-screw at the linkage, you can peak out at 3200. :p

With the Fredricks' tires on the YM2610, it goes 15mph with the cheater set-screw mod. Per the Yanmar page, the rice-tires gets you less speed.

The RC-1601 & RC-1702 were the rear tillers one could pick as standard for this model. There is a bunch of info in the parts manual for these two as well.
