Just attended the NC MTN. Station Hay Day, yesterday. We have been doing this for 6 years and this was the first year they demonstrated a compact tractor pulling a round hay baler.
The MF 1552 with a Hesston 730 baler.

The finished product. As you can see even on hilly ground this can be done.

Hesston 530 bale beside a NH740 bale. In the same field on the same day.

What are the HP requirements for the Hesston? How big of a bale will it roll (size and weight)?

I'm not the best at ID-ing equipment; but I'd say that's a 730 Hesston baler.

Tractor noobie here with an off topic question.

If that is a compact tractor, what constitutes a full size tractor.

We use a Kubota L5030HSTC which would be an equivalent model to that MF to hay with. It is compact but thinking about what it would take to make it an ag model... Larger tires and longer wheelbase for one, bigger displacement motor for how much hp would be two.

Engine HP means nothing when baling hay. PTO HP is what every baler needs to make the bale. The MF1552 has 41 PTO HP. MF1500 Series
The Hesston 730 round baler needs 30 PTO HP min., Hesston 730 Baler
