2820D Yanmar
Nice Little Tractor
Model Year: 1982

I started with a "grey market" Yanmar 2010D, a stout machine that would go through 4' wide gates. I was impressed by the tractor for its ruggedness, although it was tight getting on and off this compact tractor. It was a 4-wheel drive and had a bucket on it. It ran a 60-inch finish mower and a 42-inch tiller without difficulty. Not bad for a diesel engine of about 1-liter displacement. But, it was too small for moving the equipment I needed to move, so enter the Yanmar 2820D. The 2820 is a workhorse. It is fuel efficient, and with the front-end loader attachment with the detachable bucket and forks, it can pick up over 1,500 pounds, or a little more, with some ballast on the rear. It features 4 power take-off speeds, one which approximates 540 RPM, and a 1000 RPM, and a two slower than 540. The transmission is excellent. With the lowest gear-well, you can walk much faster than the lowest gear moves - if it has enough traction so the wheels won't spin, it would pull it.

Pros: Fuel efficient, and versatile
Cons: Live power take-off, small operator station that takes a little getting used to

This is a tank of a tractor.

Pros: Powershift trans, strong and reliable 3 cyl diesel, great lift capacity with loader and 3 point, YM 20 series weight to transfer all that torque to the ground.
Cons: A little tight getting on and off tractor, trailering can be tricky...the weight of the tractor can lift the rear wheels of the towing vehicle off the ground if no blocking is used to prevent the tail of the trailer from dropping.
