325 John Deere
Never Buy a John Deere Tractor Made in China, Like This One
Model Year: 2008

I had a JD 165 garden tractor with mower and snow blower and had no problems at all (Made in U.S.A.). The unit was not really heavy enough for a snowblower, though dealer said it was and "he lied". I thought, "let me get a heavier unit so my family could blow the snow in the winter, when I was away". This was the worst mistake I ever made. First use the carb froze up due to the blowing snow. I specifically told the dealer I needed it for snow and to make sure I had everything I needed. JD said to buy a $150.00 bra. Next, the starter froze on the unit and it would not start, even being stored in the garage. The lift assist spring broke the first year. Every year the snow blower belt tensioner would seize. ($45.00/bearing). The list continues. I tried to take it back, but JD corp said I could not. I have masked the colors and have sign posted on it to not buy it. Many of my neighbors bought one after me and now I tell them to buy a zero turn from anyone but JD. Please don't buy this or any other John Deere tractor. They are now made in China.

Pros: The tires hold air pressure.
Cons: Too many to list.

John Deere 325 Engine Swap
Model Year: 1997

Bought this JD 325 in May of 2010 for $300 cash to get it out of a farmer's yard. Unit had good tires, good transaxle, working headlights and a 48" mower deck, but a blown engine (17HP Kawasaki FC540V), ruined seat and demolished upper hood. Took it completely apart for cleaning and replacing worn parts. Took FC540V engine off my John Deere GT275, cleaned it up, replaced bottom oil seal, and installed it on the 325. Also installed new seat, new upper hood and new pto clutch. Very surprised on first run at how much more power the K71 transaxle has. Much faster in reverse than the GT275 with same K71 transaxle. Also, unit rides smoother than GT275 thanks to transaxle bushing mounts. This 14 year old unit could easily last another 14 years with proper upkeep.

Pros: Very reliable and tough unit.
Cons: No positive traction.
