5205 John Deere
Great Utility Tractor
Model Year: 2007

I've had this tractor for a year now and I use it for mowing approximately 15 acres food plots and a garden. It is a great tractor with plenty of power. It is a little light and will break lose and spin easily in 2-wheel drive but put it in 4-wheel drive and its great. I like it being light and don't add weights or water to the tires because parts of my property are wet and this tractor has plenty of flotation and doesn't get stuck easy. It's good on fuel and very maneuverable. It turns tighter than I expected for 4 by 4 tractor. It doesn't have many hours on it for its age but has been trouble free for the year I've had it. I would recommend this tractor to anyone.

Pros: Doesn't use much fuel, very maneuverable, lightweight but heavy enough
Cons: Really cant think of any

Worth the Money
Model Year: 2006

The only problems I've had is I had to replace the cooling temp. sending unit twice and two hyd. hoses on the steering. Now have a problem with the fuel gauge not working and is leaking now at the bottom where it is wired in to the tank. The size tires and 4 wheel drive are excellent and the front bucket is large enough to be indispensable. I wouldn't have another tractor, just the right size.

Pros: Does everything I need.
Cons: Fuel sending unit wires and others need better protection from brush.

Hydraulics out muscle the weight of the tractor. The front end loader will pick the rear wheels off the ground.

Pros: Dependable.
Cons: None.

Good Tractor China Parts
Model Year: 2007

It is a nice tractor for loader work but at 800 hrs. it had an electrical fire which ended and up melting the valves. 300 hrs. and 8,000 dollars later the hydraulic hose for steering burst which cost another 60 dollars. We use it to scrape and unload grain pallets which weigh over 2200 lbs from the truck with no problem. It cold starts good as long as you hold the key in. Even though it its rated 55 horsepower it has trouble pulling a 2 bottom plow.

Pros: Amazing loader.
Cons: China parts.

This tractor is okay, but nothing special. Consider price when making tractor selection. John Deere is not behind their equipment. When there was a common problem with the lift sticking, JD failed to acknowledge the issue---you are on your own for what should be recall items.

Pros: Nothing special.
Cons: Lift sticks; costly repair to fix.

John Deere 5205 2wd
Model Year: 2003

Found out this tractor has a lot more power than traction (should have gotten 4wd). I'm 6'3" and operator station could use more room. Burns very little fuel and 3 point is very responsive.

Pros: Lots of HP, good hyd., very maneuverable, economical.
Cons: Operator station is for short people. Not enough traction.

JD 5205 MFWD Review
Model Year: 2002

I bought this tractor at my local dealer with a MX-6 cutter for under 20K. Very clean, low hours, looked great. Had all manuals & records. I have around 100 acres to mow & ten to plant a food plot in, also some light FE loader work to do. First, the good: tractor starts right up, runs great & has plenty of pulling power. Will plow like a beast, if you get any wheel slip, go to 4WD & problem solved. Now the bad: It runs out of gears pretty quick with the 8spd tranny, I knew this going in, I don't bale hay so it wasn't a big issue. More troublesome is the hassle it is do work on ANYTHING on the tractor. With the plastic hood open & plastic side panels removed it's next to impossible to remove/work on anything. It was just not engineered for servicing with the loader attached in my opinion. The first day I had it I went over the tractor top to bottom, greased everything, checked all fluid levels, etc. I drained the fuel water separator (according to the manual) and went to start it, air in the system, would not start. Tried bleeding the system & bleeding with the hand bleeder for hours-no go. Dealer came out, worked on bleeding a couple of hours, replaced the hand pump (which as far as I can tell does nothing) & finally got it going for a small sum of 250.00. I've since tried to drain the radiator, petcock won't open (dealer said it's an issue with those plastic radiators). Oh, did I say PLASTIC again? Lots of it on this rig. Now the water pump is leaking from somewhere & that is my next bill. This unit is no longer in production, if you are looking at one, my advice would be to keep looking.

Pros: Good power.
Cons: Hard to work on, reliability issues, expensive parts.

Nice Utility Tractor
Model Year: 2006

I looked at many smaller compact tractors, both new and used, with 4WD and decided that a used utility tractor would best suit my needs. I'm glad I did. It's solid, a little heavy, but has the beef to lift and tear up anything I've asked it to. It also does a fine job doing simple brush hogging or snow removal work. I have some very wet land and am often in 4WD doing simple tasks. Bought used with an aftermarket FEL and filled rear tires. Upgraded to a 6 ft. brush hog and have since picked up a chipper/shredder.

Pros: Versatile, nice basic tractor, plenty of power for my needs.
Cons: A little heavy, not as maneuverable as a compact.

John Deere 5205 with 521 Loader
Model Year: 2002

Hi, I use a JD5205 with a 521 loader on a small horse farm operation in Ontario. I had an after market cab installed .The tractor is not fancy but provides good basic reliable service. It has loads of power. You have to be careful how much you try to lift without ballast or you will scare yourself. It has no problem safely moving 800-1000lb. round bales. Our farm is very hilly .I use it on a JD 709 7 foot rotary mower and it handles it easily even on steep hills. I also use it on a 74" Buhler Allied snowblower. It could easily handle a 7 foot if not 8 foot blower in our snow conditions. Overall its good value and is easy to use. I also have a 1952 JD M that's been in the family for 50 years and a JD LA 175 lawn tractor.

Pros: Good basic tractor easy to use, loads of power.
Cons: Basic tractor, not fancy, but you don't pay fancy either.
