My Little Workhouse

I got this tractor and a Dodge 4x4 pickup truck for roughing in a friends house back in 1984. The pickup is long gone, but I still have and use the Gravely 424. Most recently, I used the rotary plow to trench in a sprinkler system. I don't mow with it anymore but I keep the plow blade on it for pushing snow. I love this little work horse. It is.amazing.

Pros: Amazing for a 10 horsepower tractor
Cons: Hard to get parts

I have inherited this tractor from my Dad who purchased it used in the 1970s. Due to its sentimental value I am in the process of trying to refurbish it. I am in need of a steering gear. Any help in locating one would be greatly appreciated.

Pros: Very sturdy construction.
Cons: Locating replacement parts.

Two Are Better Than One

When a planetary gear wore out in 1998 it was too expensive to repair, so I bought a used 242 without an engine and put the engine from the broken tractor on it. Now that eBay has brought the availability of used parts to everyone everywhere I decided to restore the original 424. With a little machining I was able to fit a 16hp Kohler on the transmission. A lot of powder coat and some paint should make it look like new. I will post some pictures when finished.

Pros: Bulletproof.
Cons: They don't make them like they used to.
