I feel like I'm buying parts more than gas to run this mower. The pattern of repair of cheaply made parts that crack bend or just fall off during operation started early and often. At around 30 hours it was the PTO switch. A few weeks later it a wheel off the mower pan. Glad I keep my eyes open when I mow. At 45 hours it was the PTO belt. The tractor now has 230 hours and I have replaced 4 PTO belts. If I used this thing to mow 8 hours a day, it didn't make the first week. Now I'm having to order wheel spindle castings as they cracked and that's your front wheels off the pan. I gave the dealer a low score for two reasons. First when I took it for service as I was concerned about a lack of power in reverse, his guy had no idea what I was talking about. I said it won"t back up an incline (6%). Well it's okay now. Well yeah your drive is about 2%. Well it's okay, there's nothing I can do about it. Then the dealer farms out his parts dept to a internet company. So now when I need something I get to order it from Neverland and wait a week to get parts. Now when my wife's gone I mow around the house with my 54 Fergusen.

Pros: Kohler 23hp. Only thing on the tractor that's reliable except the cup holder.
Cons: The mower pan is a bucket of bolts. The PTO drive belt is too long and vibrates too much causing it to jump the front pulley. Also the muffler heats up the engine compartment furthering problems with the PTO belt.

This mower looks great, rides well, but quality wise it feels cheaply made. I traded for it in used condition, which may reflect most of my issues with it's reliability. However, I have a model 2166 that I purchased new in 2000, that has not let me down to date! I feel that quality wise, it is at least three times the mower that the 2554 is, with over 450 hours on it! The cut on the 2554 is poor, and from the reviews/issues on forums, there seems to be issues quite often over the deck/belts/blades. The steering is another issue, it is extremely hard to steer in comparison to the 2166.

Pros: Rides nice, gives a "big" tractor like ride, and power wise, it is strong.
Cons: Week deck/blades/belt issues, and poor quality in material selection for durability for owner.

This Cub Is great!
Model Year: 2008

I've really enjoyed owning this tractor! It really can be used for just anything I can dish out. I have the snowblower for it and it saves me hours doing the driveway during the winter. It also tills the garden, pulls logs, and grades my gravel driveway, aside from just mowing the lawn. The only thing I wish it had as far as features is a hydraulic system, (which we could have had if we had got the next size bigger). Overall, I am very satisfied with the performance of this tractor.

Pros: Large deck, big engine, built tough, & very versatile.
Cons: No hydraulics.

One year in and no problems other than a somewhat poorly designed reverse lever. Adjusting it has given good performance however. Cuts great and handles uneven terrain extremely well. Excellent traction. Rev-Tec reverse-while-mowing switch is awesome to have. Deck washing system works well. See it in use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4nmwp3IMFU So far so good. No real complaints.

Pros: Mowing in reverse. Excellent traction even on uneven terrain
Cons: Reverse pedal. Having to use parking brake or engine shuts off to get off tractor(all tractors have this now)
