LA100 John Deere
LA 100 John Deere: The Colors Are Right; The Mower is an MTD
Model Year: 2006

I do have some seat time on this mower. It does the job. It's what it is if you are mowing a big rough yard I don't think it will hold up. It made for the avg. to small yard. I have had only one problem with mine: the battery blew up. New battery in and its fine. My yard is about avg. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hour to mow. Have a little of all thing to deal with flat, steep and off camber. The mower it holding up. Upkeep is a must. Grease is are friend. Oil change each year. But to get a real John Deere, it will cost you more than the LA 100 did! $1000 to $1200 is low for a mower. Lowes carries the upkeep parts here.

Pros: Starts easy, good on fuel. Green looks good. Mows and mulchs nice.
Cons: Not a John Deere, just the name. Small mower.

LA100 John Deere
John Deere I'm Sad I Met You
Model Year: 2003

I bought the John Deere lawn tractor after carefully studying the tractors after having a Sears tractor that the steering and the front end failed early. The John Deere had a strong front axle and the steering etc. seemed to be strong. In less than a year, the plastic engine cover began to fall off. I fixed it myself by drilling it and installing bolts where the cheap plastic posts had broken off. The lights began to fall of next again because cheap plastic attachments broke off. That's when I discovered I could only get parts from a John Deere dealer. The nearest one was 50 miles away and they were really expensive plus shipping. Next steering got very hard to turn and I bought more expensive parts from John Deere and rebuilt the steering mechanism. Now the tractor has no engine cover. It split down the middle and most of the plastic trim is loose or it has fallen off.

Pros: The Briggs Stratton engine is still running strong.
Cons: It is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned even though I paid more money to try to buy a better tractor.
