MF240 Massey Ferguson
Massey Ferguson
Model Year: 1992

I have a Massey Ferguson 240. It has 2 wheel drive with a bush hog front end loader. Great tractor, but of course it really needs 4 wheel drive. Also with the front end loader and brackets it does sit too low. I have been stuck many times mowing back along a creek. Wish I could find a 4ft sideboy. Can't seem to find one in this state.

Pros: Nice quality tractor.
Cons: Sits a little too low for My liking.

My Used Massey Ferguson 240
Model Year: 0

I purchased this tractor used as the third owner. I believe it is a 1989 model. The previous owner said that the motor had been overhauled. I love the tractors performance with its Perkins AD 3. 152. The engine starts with just a bump of the key and has very good power/torque. Growing up with a Ford 8N I never knew what I was missing. I like the 8Ns, but gas just does not match up to diesel when it comes to tractors. The MF 240 has a good range when it comes to gearing and strong enough hydraulics. It is easy on fuel consumption too. With hindsight I know the MF 240 was a good choice.

Pros: Reliable, strong, has been easy to maintain.
Cons: Wish I had more time and land to use it on.

I do landscaping and have always rented skid steers. A buddy herd of a Massey w/a loader on it cheap so I bought it. So far been a great tractor. Fires right up even in cold weather without either or any kind of helper like glow plugs. Tractor said 1950 hrs. but I soon realized the meter don't work. The loader is strong lifts the back tires filled w/fluid up if it can't lift. Has a Massey 232 loader which is slow compared to a skid steer but gets the job done. I'm not a fan of shifting gears---wears ya out. And not having 4WD blows! Every time I lift something super heavy, it's hard to get moving. Got a 6 ft. bush hog brand new heavy duty j bar. Absolutely love it. Cuts great very well built. Everyone said the 6 was too much for the 240. I wish I got a 7 ft. now. It turns the 6 ft. running in 4th low range cutting 6 ft. grass no problem.over all really impressed w the Massey very well built easy to work on great power.

Pros: Good power, pulls like a horse, great on fuel, easy to work on, extremely reliable.
Cons: Shifting gears sucks, the pedals kill my knees after days work, they're kinda goofy to push down.

Use
Model Year: 2012

Although I have not used this too many hours, I like this unit very well. It is the CG24 with a front end loader. I moved a small amount of dirt with it and was pleased with the performance. Most of the use has been plowing snow. I bought a Rhino five foot snow blade and with the front bucket I am very pleased with the performance. I had an old ford 9N and this tractor out preforms it by far.

Pros: Performance.
Cons: Warm up time.

The MF240 has the excellent starting Perkins add 3152 engine. Pre-heat is only used in very cold conditions. Having power assisted steering makes the 240 very maneuverable. My tractor has the 8 speed gearbox which gives plenty of options for all ground types and with the 12.4/28 rear tires gives a more than sufficient top speed on the road. My only problems to date have been slight oil leak from rear sump seal or it could be from the rear crankshaft seal and power steering control valve weeps variable amounts even after changing o rings. Otherwise its a great tractor that can handle most jobs .

Pros: Superb starting/spares easy to source/great in tight spaces.
Cons: None.

Great tractor. Perfect size, just wish I had 4 wheel drive and a hydrostatic drive. Then it would be perfect.

Pros: Easy on and off (heigth).
Cons: No 4 wheel drive or hydro. trans.

Excellent MF 240
Model Year: 1998

As a gift from a friend, what can I say? The tractor, for a 2-wheeler, does all I ask for it.

Pros: Strong.
Cons: Web customer support.

Traded My MF231 without a loader for this tractor. Bought My 231 new in 1990. Had 600 hours on it when the clutch center came apart. Dealer put a clutch in, but it never was right again. So I decided I wanted a tractor with a front end loader. Started looking around and advertising for a tractor. A fellow called and wanted to trade me for my tractor and $1500. I jumped on it right away. Love the loader, don't know how I got along without one.

Pros: Quick hydraulics.
Cons: Odd placement of hydraulic controls.

MF240
Model Year: 1980

I bought this tractor 20 years ago with 1000 hours on it. I use it mainly for cutting fields(about 40 acres), as well as grading 1-mile gravel road, clearing snow, discing, riding rings, etc. It is ideal for my uses. I also have a 1980 int'l 884. I used it once to grain drill 40 acres of pasture. It is now relegated to moving manure...too big and uses too much fuel for what I need.

Pros: Easy to operate and very fuel efficient.
Cons: None.

Go Red!
Model Year: 1998

One couldn't ask for a tougher or more reliable tractor. 3 cyl Perkins has never failed to start since new. Loud as heck, miserable paint quality, and Lucas electronics aside.......when there is work to be done, this thing is about unstoppable.

Pros: Super reliable, and hard pulling for it's size.
Cons: Paint and wiring quality.

This tractor is a trip. Its a mf240 on a case 480ck frame. I took the bucket off because it was too heavy and the cylinders were shot. The lights were of no use because the wiring was jacked up. The gannon is ok, I think. it goes up and down. I have fuel problems and power steering problems as well. I am new at this tractor owning thing. I have always just rented one. I have been working on it since I bought it. It's truly a challenge that I am glad I took on.

Pros: I am learning something everyday.
Cons: I am losing a year off my life everyday.
