I have just bought a used Moritz livestock trailer that has some rust issues. I kind of remember someone in the same boat and someone gave them some online places too get parts or body panels. I just cant find that thread.

Of course if someone has any experience with repairing the nose of a trailer where they rust thru at the bottom please chime in or if you know where I can get parts. Thanks

on our stock trailer

on the nose of it where it had rusted through , I just went to the local welding/ steel supplier and got a 1/8" by 8" I think flat and cut the rusted out and welded the plate in where the tin had rusted out, (on mine I did from the out side), and then repainted and I used body under coating on the inside to help keep it from happening again, not it is not perfect on close inspection, but then it is 35 years old as well,

I was thinking on reinforcing it with flat stock. Did you have to heat the metal up too bendit around the nose?

Boy I sure could have used that catalog during my re-build of my stock trailer. As such I have fabricated all of the replacement pieces myself. Luckily my nose piece is in good condition but I've had to replace the rest of the roof plus many many changes. Now I have a weekender package...almost done..... If interested I'll post some pictures.

no I did not,
actual I think the jack was in the way so it not tight at first in front but bent around and tacked, on the end, (but 1/8" or 10 gage is easy to bend around a 5 or 6 foot diameter), and then and started around pressing it in and tacking it in place then cut off when I came around to the other side,

ya Rpw would love to see some pics of your trailer.

I have decided too have my trailer sand blasted at least the frame and nose piece. I think it will tell me what metal is good and what needs to be replaced! After this wkend I will tear out the floor and what ever else is in the way of sand blasting and what ever might be obviously rusted to no repair.

OK, I'll get my photos together and start a new thread. What I can tell you is this project has been in the works for over 4 years. I'd bring the trailer back to the house (we don't live on our property.....yet) during the summer and then be moved back to the property (or used) in the fall, winter, spring. And last year due to the extreme heat I hardly worked on it at all.
