I am in the process of doing some fuel storage.
I have an oil pump and want to add a small extension to the pickup end. I want to use CPVC pipe and also a ball valve. I dont see any reactions over the short run. But got to wondering how it will work out. there wont be much pressure in the use.
Thanks .

I had a CPVC dip tube from pump on top of tank to bottom. No issues except about every 3 years it would fall off the threaded union. :confused3:

If you can use straight lengths of PVC pipe what prevents you from using straight lengths of black iron pipe that will hold up to diesel fuel?

PVC not reactive to #2 distillate. Lot of it used over years on oil tanks.

Fire Department guys got little testy bout PVC lines dat were improperly keeping tanks positioned so Fire Code changed to disallow PVC for fuel oil.

Thanks. Im not sure why I didnt google it lol. good article ,i would use black iron pipe but im to cheap.

After I wrote this thread, I laughed when I recalled at one time I was at Home Depot and there was a pickup in front of the store and must have been out of gas.One guy had the gas can in hand and they tried to put it in the truck. but the filler was straight up and down, The second guy went into the truck cap and got a huge Dunkin Donuts styro cup and fashioned a funnel for the gas...
It didnt take much gas for the cup to turn to dripping mess.
To compound this as they went back inside the store the guy I was working for, drives out of the lot and tosses his cigarette but at the van.... Luckily no flames were had.

crazy.. Anyways hope that made you laugh..I did but also fel bad for the guy who was out of gas.

Thanks again

I made the pickup tube for my Diesel storage out of regular PVC 5 years ago and it's holding up fine.

PVC is a lot stronger than cpvc so I’d use that but my experience is diesel doesn’t hurt it. I’ve had pvc on my transfer tank for a few years without issue.

All plastic fuel cans are made of what? HDPE. So, look for HDPE pipes and plumbing fixtures.

Fergenson brand has been around for decades and the stores carry their parts.
