Hydraulics stopped working??????

Jepe (Futian, Foton) 354, backhoe attached, working dirt, went up (pretty steep) the spoils bank to dump the bucket and the loader just stopped working after it dumped. It would go down, not up, no bucket curl, only gravity movement. The backhoe also stopped working. Checked fluid level, right up to full mark. Shut tractor down for a few then re-started, no difference, any rpm. Has happened before, but fluid level was low, filled up and went on, not this time, I finally have all the leaks fixed.

Could it be a simple air bubble, or something like that, or is it new pump time. Any help would be appreciated. BEAR

Is the pickup tube at the front of the resovoir like on the Jinma's? IF so and it was low, you may have sucked up a bunch of air while going up hill. IF you also have a small air leak on the suction pipe, the pump may be having a problem self primeing. If your tractor is like my Jinma and it draws the hydraulic fluid up through the top of the resovoir and through a pipe union and on to the pump suction port then this could be the problem as an air leak at that union could make it difficult to prime(like having a hole at the top of a siphon hose). With the tractor shut off, You could open this union and see if any fluid runs out. If no fluid comes out, try pouring some hydraulic fluid into the line that goes to the pump. Try to fill up that line to prime the pump then re-connect the union and see if that gives the pump enough oil to move and draw more oil up from the tank.

If this dosn't work, perhaps sucking the air caused damage to the pump.

Thanks RonMar, that sounds like a good idea, but this afternoon I decided to try it one more time, and the @%$#&^%$ tractor won't start now. I called the dealer and talked with a voice mail, waiting to hear from them. It tried to start once, let off the key, tried again and it sounds like the starter stuck, and won't turn it over. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If the JEPE configuration IS like that of a 200 series Jinma, the system would be self-purging. Air eventually works it's way out the reservior vent.

Sounds more like no hydraulic fluid is flowing. Combined with a hard starting (or rough running) engine you've got symptoms of a quick connect that popped loose, a hose that collapsed, a rigid line that's crushed, a cylinder that won't bypass, or a pump that's locked up, or a flow control valve that somehow got closed.

Have you adjusted the flow control below the operator seat ? Any black smoke coming out of the exhaust?

The hydraulic suction on my 284 is on the Front left side of the hydrauic resovoir. Going UP hill, the fluid flows away from the suction strainer. With the strainer setting vertically like it is, at least on mine it is, A low resovoir level could expose the screen to air pretty easilly on any real uphill angle.

Greg, I checked all the hose conncections and looked for damaged solid line and found everything to be in order. When I tried to start the engine, it turned over very easy, as always, and almost started. When colder, (like now) it never starts on the first try, but usually on the second. I really think this is an issue with the starter and not conncected with the hydraulic problem.
If the dealer has not called by noon today, I am going to remove the starter and check it out for any problems.

Checked the battery and it was fully charged but still would not start, had to pull start the tractor, drove it out of the woods so the dealer could load it on a trailer. Once I shut it off, it started right back up, no problem with the starter. A friend used his loader to lift the bucket up enough we could move the tractor. The hydraulics still won't work. Hope the dealer can fix it quick, lots of firewood and ditch work to finish before winter sits in.
When I put the meter on the starter and hit the switch, it showed near nothing, coming in it showed 14.3. With meter on battery 14.3, hit the starter switch and it still showed 14.3, no change at all. Could there be a dead spot on the starter? I wonder if it will do it again. At least the dealer is coming today to pick it up. I'm sure Mike (mechanic) will get it fixed.

Don't know whether Futian uses the same starter vendor as Jinma, but I can tell you from personal experience that the inside of three Jinma-provided starters I worked on were positively filthy. It may be well worth your while to remove the starter for a bench disassembly. Get rid of all the dirt and spongy wet goop that may once have been grease. Then re-lubricate the moving/revolving parts with a good dielectric grease.

The starter didn't seem to have any real crud in it, but Mark, (mechanic) replaced it for me anyway.
Mark also found the hydraulic problem, he thought it might be a jam nut had backed off the adjuster for the draft control sensor (I think that's what he called it) just inside the top case. He pulled the top cover off and sure enough, it was loose and causing the system to bypass. He adjusted it back up, fired her up, the pump primed and everything started working. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
