Wife has said she wants to ride while I mow - not sure if that's a good thing or not... But we are also likely to have foster kids in the house soon and some tractor time for them might be a good thing once in a while.

I don't really need or want a full-size ag tractor - I do alot of trail work in the woods so having a CUT makes alot of sense to me. Has anyone added a buddy seat to a CUT, or mid-size tractor? I see some buddy seats for sale on the web, but most of them seem to be intended for full sized ag tractors.

That would be Death or Serious Injury looking for a place to happen. I would ONLY consider it for a tractor with a cab. Unless you can LOCK the passenger in the seat and have control over the that lock, you're begging for an accident.

You make an excellent and important point. I may look at cab options (the AC would be nice down here in the summer anyway)

Dang the safety police are all over this,
heck yesterday I rode the fender on a JD 4430 about 3 miles from the farm back over to a field where my pickup was parked.
Anything can hazardous or done with reasonable safety, nothing is pure and simple, black or white.
100% safety amounts to not doing anything.
The problem with many compact and all sub compacts is that there is no space for a jump seat or even a good enough fender to have riding space.
If you can get a buddy (instructor) seat mounted on your tractor where you can still operate it properly good for you, go for it and enjoy.
