What's Good Grease for a 5th Wheel

I just got a 5th wheel trailer that included the hitch. I had the hitch professionally installed, but now I have a question about the plate.

What kind of grease is good to use on the plate, and how often should I grease it?

My first post, hope I can help.

I quit using grease on my 5th-wheel plate in favor of a Teflon disc. Much cleaner, and works like a dream. Should be available at any RV store.

Teflon disc all the way. Also referred to as a "lube plate".

Okay, how does it work? Does it just snap in over the current plate, or do I need to modify the hitch somehow to make it fit?

No mods, it snaps over the pin on your trailer.

Mine is about 5 years old and not worn down enough to warrant replacement, though I don't tow it more than about 5,000 miles a year.

The lube plates work great and are clean.

I just can't use one on my binkley head..... grease still works.

Has anybody tried Slip Plate aerosol graphite? Yould have to reapply between use occasionaly, but its dry and clean.

So what are you disk guys using to lube the pin and hitch jaws? There is more to this than just the plate lube. I figure if I need to grease part of it I will grease all of it. And to the OP, any good EP grease seems to be good. Back in my days of driving the big ones the fifth wheels just got chassis lube and it lasted just fine.

I would hope everyone is greasing the moving parts and the pin.

The lube plate just cuts down on dirt collection for the RV fiver. Commmerical is a little different. I wouldn't think a lube plate would last too long on a commercial rig.
