So, in theory, I can go between snowblower and loader for smaller storms.

Man, am I torn.

Id get a blower...put it on and leave it on... Even on a light snow I dont think it would be any slower then a blade. Figure even with only 1/2" on the ground you can just step on it and go just as fast as you want with the blower. With a blower, the only thing depth of snowfall changes is ground speed.
Definetly not worth the time to switch back & forth between the FEL and blower if you go that route. Of course you could do the 3pt Blower and have both all winter.

I agree with Spudland Dave. Buy the blower, put it on, leave it on. I maintain about 1/4 mile of sidewalk for a historic cemetery nearby - when we get a light snow I can just increase my speed. Actually works better to go faster because it feeds the light snow better.

Can't help you with the MMM, they are pricey but worth it (IMHO).

Good luck with your decision.

I have a 2520 with a 54" blade. I prefer the blade over the blower because I seem to get covered in snow when I use a blower. No problems with snow build up yet but if I get too much I'll just put the loader on and move it. I have considered a rear blower for those 24" snowfalls but here in mid Michigan we haven't had snow like that for a while.

A blower moves snow /nothing else
A Blade moves snow / and other stuff.

A blower moves snow like nothing else.

Buy the blower and add a used blade for $400 or less if you want it later.

LBrown lives where a "big" snow is 4".

Really depends on the blade in question...IMO even the factory JD Frame mounted blade is just a glorified Heavy Duty snow and light sand pusher....

Trip Springs = Its not a real blade

I've never seen a genuine Dirt Pusher (D6, Grouser Blade, etc) with a trip edge...

That all being said...yes I have a trip spring on my FEL Mounted Fisher Snow Plow...

So, if I buy the snowblower, I suppose I could also buy the blade for several hundred more and do the whole road much quicker during light storms. But, of course, we do get 18" snowfalls every year and sometimes 24" of somewhat heavy, dense snow.

What would you do?!

I use a 2305 with both the 47" front blower and the 54" front blade. I wanted to be sure I could get out under any possible condition.....I think you might be on the right track. You do really need to have both, to handle any possible situation. Last winter we had a lot of freezing rain/ice events in southern N.E. and I was glad to have the front blade (with down-pressure) to scrape the driveway clean. When you get over 10" of snow you'll be glad you have the blower.
Go with both, you'll be glad you did! This year I added a rear-blade to the arsenal to use with the front blower and I think I may have the ultimate "snow fighter". Can't wait to try it out.

Cheers, Stu

Hi, good thread. I was hoping someone could help me. I picked up a used 59" JD thrower to go on my 955 but do not have the PTO shaft set for the front mounting. If anyone knows of a source I would greatly appreciate it. Winter's comin.
