I still have a hand crank telephone dynamo. I also have a Ford Model T spark coil.

I was told but never tried the following: disconnect one plug wire of a two cylinder outboard and attach a length of wire to it to trail in the water (metal boat) and troll in a circle picking up the stunned fish.

I can comment from personal experience that in moist soil of your lawn you can "encourage" night crawlers (large earth worms prized for fishing bait) to surface by use of an electric current. When I was in later grade school I used to get 1/2 of a cent for each night crawler in good condition (not over stressed or broken in the rigors of capture.) After a rain, with care, I could make a little pocket change nabbing some worms on sidewalks and such as well as the ones partially exposed at the surface, exercising proper harvesting (worm wrangling) techniques.

The electro-harvesting boosted my profits and was faster and easier (for me.)

If'n I can recal correctly there used to be all kinds of adds in Popular Mechanics for shocking systems for the harvest of night crawlers.:D

Prokop, you're right on spot, you have seen either side... i do not have this experience living in a country with such government.. So that's not influencing my view... As allways, an opinion is based on our experiences...

.

I found that article very interesting. I especially noticed that in a country where handguns are for the most part illegal that the murderer used a handgun to shoot theo. It just illustrates a saying that is common in the United States. When handguns are outlawed only outlaws will have handguns.

I've never done it.. but have heard of it and seen it.

I remember in high school electronics class we would sometimes hot-rig up a chair ( usually a scoundrell ) on a desk with an induction coil ( automotive ).. and wait for a troublemaker to do something behind the teachers back.. then administer some correction...
Fine magnet laid int he cracks of the tile facilitated running the juice.. and well.. an auto coil taped to the bottom of the chair, secondary either hooked to a chair rivit or leg.. etc.. ;)

So Saturday morning, 5:00am, wife wakes me up... there's something outside, you hear that? I'm like, Huh? What? I hear some scratching on the side of the house. I look out the window, see nothing, but hear it again. Throw on my jeans, grab a flashlight and go out the back door and start looking around.

So there I am, wondering around the yard barefoot in jeans, no shirt, with a flashlight. The cold air starts waking me up and I recall this post... YIKES!!! I run back inside. Got better dressed and "equipped", then went back out just in time to hear raccoons going through the trash. Shoo! :D

Please bear with me.
Cryin' shame. It's one thing if you do something dumb (or not dumb) or have some type of unavoidable calamity to have to deal with this stuff.

But for someone to do this to you on your own homestead is stupid. It almost makes me sick to think about what goes through someone's mind to do this to another. And I hate to think how easy it is to happen.

We all wish you the best.

And we DON'T wish the best for the individual that did this to you.

When my niece lived between Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead in SOCAL they used to have 'coons in their trash a lot so one evening when they hear the trash can lid hit the sidewalk her hubby runs out barefoot in jeans and T-shirt almost right into a black bear. He retreated into the house, locked the door, got his gun and "stood guard" near the door just in case.

When I heard the story my comment was he forgot a couple items. He says, "like what?" and I say, "like ringing the doorbell on the way back into the house and announcing HONEY...ITS FOR YOU!!"

( A TRUE STORY)

Now regarding worms... I missed a few issues of Pop Sci and Pop Mechs when I was a youngster but have subscriptions now. I did not know they documented electro-harvesting of worms.

Yet another true story...

When my BIL was in the USAF, a class he attended just after lunch had this one guy who fell asleep every day. The class was a basic electricity class and one of the demonstration apparatus was a telephone generator wired to a light bulb. They wired it to the dude's ankles while he slept and gave him a wake up call.
