BTDT. How about a Ditch Witch and a chain link fence. It's amazing to watch the fence unzip in slow motion while your foot is trying to find the clutch. BTW I'm 0-2 with the fence. I keep saying that NOW I have learned my lesson. We'll see....

What does a john boat have to do with owing and operating a tractor? It mostly has to do with operator negligence of course.

Occasionally we see folks admitting to stupid things they did on their tractors. Today is my day for confession.

I was mowing my roads this weekend. Went down the hill toward my pond. I've got a good sized john boat and a canoe near the edge of the lake. I usually mow right up next to them. Well, this time I didn't notice that the long rope attached to the front of the john boat was stretched out into the deep grass and of course the rotary cutter grabbed it. It all happened in slow motion but even so I reacted in slower motion.

I remember passing the boat and thinking "I hope that rope is not out in this grass." Then I saw the boat lurch and I knew what had happened but I remember thinking "It will just cut the rope, no big deal." Of course it did not cut the rope, it got cought in the spindle and them the boat starts zooming towards the tractor. The front edge of the boat hit the rear wheel of the tractor and I mean hard! I switch the PTO off and stopped.

I was surprised at the damage. First, I was surprised that the tractor hardly even had a scratch on the rear wheel. The boat has a big orange dent on the gunwhale of the bow. The rope attachment pulled a big tear in the front of the bow and there is a crack between the rolled edge of the bow and the bow itself. Fortunately all of this is above the water line so the boat is still functional. I think I can fix all of it with a metal plate to re-attach the tie down and maybe some bondo to fix the crack. The dent is cosmetic only and the boat is old and ugly anyway.

Well, that's my dumb move for the week. Stay tuned, I'm sure there will be more antics in the near future.
That's quite a catch.
You sure reeled that one in didn't you?
What did you use for bate?

I still think I can slip over the hose laying deep in the grass with the finish mower. So far this summer I'm 0-3. Just to lazy to get off!!
I just missed getting my garden hose with the MMM the other day

Just happened to look down and there it was being passed by the mid mount mower by about an inch.

BTDT all kinds of ways...

once i saw a program on TV about the brain... it said something like there was a certain unusual brain activity just BEFORE a person was going to commit a mistake....

For me, this seems to be an "I maybe should stop and check on something.....naw....that couldn't happen, it'll be Ok" set of thoughts...then there is about 1 second until it is clear I SHOULD have stopped... Don't ask me how I know:eek:

Hey thanks for the honesty.. I could probably come up with a few myself on saying to myself "You BIG DUMMY!" (if you remember Stanford and Son). Mowing with the push gas mower the other day I thought I would take the shortcut over the rubber welcome mat at the front door.. I thought aww it will be ok.. Well that stupid mat lifted up from the mower vacuum and caught in the blades. Before I could release the kill bar it whacked that mat into pieces and stalled the mower.. Oh well that mat was old anyhow!:D

Stuff happens FAST! I was teaching my teenage sons how to run the JD cutter a couple of months ago. I laid my new $50 Camelback hydration system across the hood of the tractor. As they were watching me masterfully demonstrate how to clear the area, buckle up, slowly spin up the PTO, watch for obstacles...my Camelback slid off the hood and was under the spinning blades before I could execute an all stop. After the boys stopped poking fun, they really did understand just how quickly things can go wrong. In the end, $50 for a real-life safety lessons for the kids...I'll take it.

"whack whack whack .... wonder what that WAS?"

It's my typical response...

Thanks for honesty about your incident.
When my wife cuts here little section she alway goes around with the RTV and removes hoses, grill, chairs, and tables etc. before she starts. I think this rather strange. Seems to take the challenge out of dodging them!
Last year I back my RFM into a corner to cut. I went a little to far and the top spindle on the rear wheel inter laced with wire horse fence. It was 90+ outside and I was in my cab with a/c blasting away. I was not going to get out and clear the situation. I was going to exercise my excellent skills and manerver the RFM out of the fence. Back/forth, up/down jocking the wheel left/right and did this in only 10 min. I was so proud of myself that I didn't have to get out and just kick the wire loose. I must have had a mile wide smile on face then took off... with front tires cut full left...took out the 6X6 gate post!

Moral of the story!
Do you think my wife needs mental help for her strange behavior!
