Backhoe CK30HST - Can't connect backhoe HOSES?

   / CK30HST - Can't connect backhoe HOSES? #11
I frequently have this problem and think it is due to the backhoe hyd.seals leaking by over time and trapping pressure in the hoses. The weight of the back hoe works against the system and squeezes the oil agianst the back of the male hose connectors. I have resolved by two means, lifting backhoe with my other tractor and using the back hoe levers to balance/bleed-off the pressure between the rams and also, wrapping a rag over the quick connects of the backhoe hoses and giving a sharp rap with a soft-faced hammer to vent off the pressure built up in the hoses. Some spray occurs but a good rag captures the most of it. A more perm. fix wcould include inserting a bypass cct/Vv or perhaps a vent cct/Vv.

That is the official TBN solution. Works well and requires nothing other than to remember a rag and a flat faced hammer when you set out to attach a hydraulic implement. If you have female connectors under pressure then a smooth brass rod of appropriate diameter helps too.

That should be the official Neanderthal solution since beating a quick connect adapter with a hammer is about as smooth as clubbing your prom date.

As I said before, just move the backhoe controls in all directions possible and the slightest movement of any of the hydraulic cylinders will be enough to release hose pressure and you can easily plug in the connector without force. Hitting it with a hammer in my opinion is just unnecessary...

You forget that the implement itself may have pressurized fluid (in a grapple for example) and there is no way to release that other than opening the circuit. You are right that you should almost never need to "bleed" the tractor side of the system to get the quick connects open but with closed circuit implements it can be a different story.

Besides, what's wrong with clubbing your prom date? Time honored traditions die hard. :D

This may be pointing out the obvious, but make sure the lever for your hydraulic remote on the tractor is in the center (off) position especially if the tractor is running.

Especially if you have a crescent wrench handy to smack it with!

I was thinking a rock myself.

The front loader can be a bear to hook the lines up to. If you crack the connections on a couple pistons everything cooperates right away. No hammers, no bloody knuckels...
I guess if you park it with 50 scientists leveling it and checking the temperature every hour you won't have a problem, but as soon as it sinks into the dirt, or the wind blows, you need to compensate.

A better mouse trap! I bought this fitting at Tractor Supply, It works as advertised the only problem was a little oil leakage from the fitting while disconnected from the tractor most probably due to temperature changes that opened and closed the pressure release port on the fitting. No more fighting with the pressure problem and I would recomend it no matter where you buy it. About $12.00

Not sure if I made my point so here it goes again. This is not an ordinary quick connect coupling! This one has a small pressure relief valve on the tip. With very little pressure you push the little button on the tip against any rigid surface and it opens releasing the residual pressure in the backhoe. You can also simply insert it into the female connection and when it encounters the valve it will relive the pressure and EASILY go in until it completes the connection. Here is a link to the manufacturer's page with a picture showing the small valve on the end. So by purchasing this product you can put away your whacking devices and just slip it in with ease.
