Big-bucks enthusiasts annoyed that they're not the only ones at the club with a Veyron can now ensure that they arrive in total exclusivity. That's because the one-off Maybach Exelero, commissioned by Fulda to act as a high-profile demonstrator for its tire line of the same name, is now for sale. The Exelero isn't some delicate flower of a show car. Based on the Maybach 57 and powered by a 700-horsepower version of that car's turbocharged V12, the Exelero reached 218 mph at Nardo. In many ways, Exelero represents what Maybach could have and should have been -- a place where daring styling and incredible performance could merge with extreme luxury to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Instead, while the marque's sedans clearly get the luxury part of the equation right, in terms of styling, they basically work in anonymity, looking like peculiar old S-Class sedans. There's nothing anonymous about the Exelero, though, and for €5,000,000 (around $7.8 million USD), you can drive the sybaritic supercar that Daimler should have given Maybach all along.

A rare sighting for sure!
Can you imagine the depreciation on those babies! Pay 400K new, in three years it is probably going to be worth around 120K.
I guess if you have that kind of dough, you don't care.
If I was going to look for something unique, ultra luxurious in an understated way but not break the bank, I'd look for a 3 year old 12 cylinder Volkswagen Phaeton. It is built on the same platform as the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, since Volkswagen owns Bentley. Mind-boggling depreciation means you can find one for around 30-35K. A8s too. A 2006 LWB W12 would have set you back over 100K. Beautiful cars though. My BIL deals in higher-end used German stuff. Maybe I'll put him on the hunt for one. Spoiled by the Passat TDIs fuel economy though. The Maybach sedans always looked kinda stodgy to me, as Rvaitor said, like a big Hyundai :D:D

All that money spent on a magnificent car and still stuck in traffic. I wonder if he works for Exxon or one of the oil companies? If I was making their cash, I'd have a cab tractor that would have a v12 turbo or something....:D

Well, you sure don't see those in my corner of St. Tammany Parish. The driver, btw, was dressed like a chauffeur. It was ~~ 5 PM last Friday, and yes it was a Houston sized traffic jam.

What proof do you have the car the OP saw was purchased with bailout money?

No proof, just a wild guess that some CEO used his bonus money to buy one. I'm sure only the rich and famous could afford such a car. I'm certainly not in the proper income category to own one of them. If I was I wouldn't have to build my own attachments and fix my own cars.

I have an acquaintance in Fl. who's 8 car garage on the first floor has marble floors and LED lighting in the ceiling, a Maybach would look good there with his 3 Mercedes, Ferrari, Excaliber, and two Z8 BMWs .
