Power Out - Day Two

We have grey,yellow and green seals for our meter sockets.They only give us lineman the grey color tags.The meter shop installs the other two colored ones.coobie

The way I see it, you guys just gave complete instructions on how to get somebody killed, to an audience full of people that know just enough to get it done.
I have a generator panel. I'm too lazy to install it as of yet. When the power goes out I run some extention cords, I don't risk someone else's life because I'm lazy.

I'm trying to avoid a complete seperate sub-pannel as I would like to power the entire house, not just certain circuits.

You've got both options mixed into one idea there Joel. To power the whole house you need the Main service panel that has the generator switch built into it. The sub-panel switching panel is alot less $.

Flip the main, feed in your 220 from the generator to your dryer outlet. The outside is isolated. Linemen should be checking for voltage along the way. In NO WAY AM I condoning hurting anyone.

I climbed the poles for 4 years prior to getting into IS/IT in what is now Verizon. Every time we went out we were required to check for voltage with our wand. I got quickly reminded once when I encountered a hot mobile home that wasn't grounded properly.

In that case the mobilehome had not had power for awhile, the utility fired it up and never checked that the ground was broken at the meter.

In my area the customer is responsiable for the ground at the meter socket.Alot of time the phone companies hook on to the customers ground rod at the meter socket which can cause problems.We are responsiable for the wire going to the weatherhead,or under ground wire going to the bottom of the meter socket.coobie

Question...
I'm considering installing a wind turbine in the backyard.
When we are not utilizing the total output of the unit, the excess will be "backfed" into the grid (perfectly legal) and I will get credit (meter runs backwards).
When the electricity goes out, the turbine will continue to produce (hopefully). Nowhere have I found a requirement to have an auto cut-out switch to prevent the backfeed.
The power company and the county say I don't need one.
I don't want to hurt anyone, and I'm sure this scenario is carried out thousands of times a day.

Yeah running little cheap extension cords all over the house, ya know 100 footer plugged into a electric space heater, getting slammed in doors, getting wet, etc has never caused any problems.

I'll take my chances backfeeding.
