We are going to look at a 24 hp Yanmar 4WD diesel with bucket, mower and box scraper - How can we know if it is a grey market or not? It is a 2001 and are asking $5500 here in Northern California - does that sound like a decent price? Any help would be greatly appreciated since we are brand new to tractors - thanks, Eve

Why does that matter? A good dealer can support some grey market models better than an OEM dealer can support most of the models originally sold in the US. Of far greater concern is the integrity of the seller and the source of the unit. Best protection by far is references. Get several (we provide 5-6 to any shopper who asks) and CHECK THEM OUT before buying. Do the units have OSHA approved ROPS, overrunning couplers, etc. added? If not, why not? Doesn't the dealer care about your safety? Read here UTDA

I'm going to be surprised if it is a 2001 model. That's only 7 years old. The newest models that I've seen are the F and Fx series, and I think they are late 80's and early 90's. I'm not saying it's impossible that it's a 2001, but it's not likely.

To answer your question, if it is a 2001 model, it is grey. I think the only non-grey tractors imported have been a couple of tracked tractors that are being used in vinyards in California.
Also, in general, if the tractor is a YMXXX (3 digit number), it is probably a US model (I know there is at least one exception that rule, but I don't remember the number). If it is a YMXXXX (4 digit number), or an F or Fx model, it is almost certainly grety.

Good luck with your search. Take care.

Read the post from LMTC again. All I can add is that I would not buy from any yanmar seller that was not a UTDA dealer.

It turned out to be a 2210 model number, my error. It appears to be in very good shape, well cared for by an elderly gentleman farmer - he has the manuals (in English), some extra parts, etc. From what I can figure out, it seems to be a good used tractor for our small area.

The one Kenmac is talking about has a 2210D W/L for $8699 . plus you will have to pay for shipping. Same tractor you are looking at for $5500 and you get a mower and a box scraper. Get someone to go look at it with you that knows tractor . it sound like a good deal to me.
