50 cal gun

You can also buy a working replica of a civil war cannon, but what practical utility does it have to any of us? Most people would be far better protected by a 12 gauge pump loaded with buckshot.

An old cannon would be a heck of a scatter gun, I could see the burgler now, coming in the door ,face to face with a vintage horwitzer. Of course I too like the 12 and it's allot easier to manuever.

Definitely pretty cool, I'm surprised there's not more recoil, that guy squeezed off 10 rounds without much effort.
There's two components that mitigate the recoil in an M107. The first is the hugenormous muzzle brake at the end of the barrel. It's about the size of a small sandwich. The second is the barrel suspension system. When a round is fired, the entire barrel and bolt carrier group recoil into a buffer and spring in the stock. Felt recoil is roughly that of a 12 ga shotgun.

Found two things I found out I never knew before

1. The .308 is the standard AK47 round

You know Sig, you're right. I saw that episode of "Future Weapons" and totally missed Richard "Mack" Machowicz (host) saying that! Good call!!!

Mack knows better than that too. He was a Navy SeAL for 10 years!! He was probably reading a script and never paid attention to what he was putting out, but focusing more on getting his lines right.

My Barrett M99's recoil is a lot less than my Rem870 with slugs. The muzzle brake is a huge factor but the 45lbs total mass make it a very smooth shot. You never loose sight of the target before and after a round. Not a shoulder mount though... And, the sound of the shot bouncing off the back woods is unforgettable.

The video is as informative as an anti gun ad.

2. It take between 15 to 20 seconds between shots with a bolt action rifle. How old of a rifle were they talking about?

Funny the video doesn't show some guys being dropped and having to lug that rifle around:D

That is correct. The AK47 fires the 7.62x39 round.
7.62 = .308 caliber.

Clarification ??

The AK47 is a .308 equivalent bullet, but that weapon takes a 7.62x39 cartridge. My Mini-30 takes this round. However, the ".308/30-06" cartridge as the ".308 NATO round" is a 7.62x51 dimension. That could be a problem with my Mini, eh ?

It's a common misconception.

When Mack was talking in the video, he states: "This is the .308, it is the standard round of the AK-47." That's not true. A .308 round will not go into an AK-47. It was a misleading statement.

AK-47 round (7.62x39mm) aside, the 7.62x51mm NATO round is NOT exactly the same as the run of the mill commercial .308 round, however close it may be.

Let me speak from experience....

The ar15 in viet nam and the ak's would both fire U.S/NATO. ammo
however the ak could also fire Commie 30 ammo.

As far as bringing a 50 cal to a fire fight..

They can RUN ...but they can not hide!!

I spent 2 tours with the 1St Marines in indian country.

6113 HMH 463 = Door Gunner 50 cal/ Crew Chief

I blew tree stumps 36 wide to settle the trouble.

Been There!

You may have been there, but I'm going to tell you that you are sadly mistaken sir! Thanks for your service, but you got your wires crossed somewhere. AK-47's in Vietnam wouldn't fire NATO rounds or US 5.56x45mm rounds...much less be able to fire both, even if they were chambered for one or the other.
