How much is this dozer worth?

Well, I've definitely seen that maxim at work at local/municipal levels.......i.e., "we better spend all of our budget to justify next year's request or they'll realize we don't need it and it'll be cut." Amazing. And just one more example of how our government is not run like a business but as a self-justifying entity. And, anything the government runs or oversees will be operated in the very same manner.

One thing I don't understand is why the buying department here, who now realizes they've had a machine for 18 years that they didn't need, can't communicate with other units or parts of the government to find a good place for this machine. Possibly replace an older hour unit or shift it to the Forest Service for fire duty, etc. Get some reasonable use out of it.

Odd. Just d@mned weird.

Two things -
In the Army I used to LIKE to see some stuff bought and never used - it meant we were at peace.
Most excessed equipment is mandated to be offered to Federal and State governments, but especially if a base is closing down a lot of the "stuff" doesn't get picked up in time.
Who knows, maybe this was bought and "misplaced" and just turned up.

HMMM...
this looks like a MPS dozer...

not sure if you are familiar with the Marine Corps Maritime Preposition Force program..
But the purpose of the program is to have a NEW equipment pre-loaded on a ship ready to float off with little notice. It would supply a Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force. The ships would depart a port- IE Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, Blout Island... then the Marines would fly to a port near the "conflict" and offload new gear, and the 3 B's (beans, bullets and bandages)... then off to war they go... And a whole lost faster than packing up a Task Force and then shipping etc..

At Blout Island-the equipment is offloaded ran up, serviced, and reloaded annually or every 18 months, if I remember correctly..
So that means this 25 hours could be VERY accurate.

Since the dozer is at Blout Island Florida, I suspect it is from this program.
The mission of Blout Island, at least the Blout Island Command (BIC), is to service these ship's loaded equipment.

Now some of this may have changed a little in the last 10 years since I got out.. But this looks like the deal here...

anyway-- hope this helps...

Later,
J

Wow guys, a lot of good information there. I am going to keep my eye on it, but chances are it will exceed the $10000 mark and I will be out of the game. Oh well, a man can dream. This would be the perfect tool to clear land on my little corner of the world, and then sell to the high bidder. Most likely at a nice profit as well.

From looking at the slide show of the pictures, I believe that the hours are probably correct. If you look at the pedals, cylinder shafts , winch, fittings, tracks., blade. It was probably found in a warehouse somewhere, lost in time. I have no idea what it is worth, but it is only about 10 mi from me. You have to make an appointment for a preview.

It does seem curious that the manifest shows this info:

TRACTOR,FULL TRACKE
DTID:MMV1048288N102
Manf: CNH AMERICA LLC
Part#: T5

I'm pretty skeptical that a JD dozer was NOT manufactured by CNH AMERICA LLC. Knowing how data entry is, that info could have been from a copied field that never got changed to the right data. Who knows?
