Where did you get the stats from?? Looks like Ford is blowing the others away if the stats are accurate....Government motors is federally owned and when the government gets involved I don't want any part of it..Buying from a bankrupt company would turn me away from a sale...Times are tough for many people...Scary world right now....

I agree 100%. I will never buy another GM/Government Motors product and am looking to dump the one I have in discus. The government should have let it be and not stepped in. I mean come on, if Sears was going to close the doors they would have not done a thing, it would have been the just the way things go in the business world.
I will not buy a Chrysler/Fiat product for the same reason.

You know, Ford isn't exactly healthy & setting the world on fire, either. They are hemmoraging money, too. They've lost billions in the last 4 or 5 consecutive quarters and are still in a lot of financial trouble. The only reason they are still afloat is because they were smart and they borrowed money before the credit markets froze up.

Sorry to make you cry in your lucky charms, but hang on folks, Ford (Yes, FORD) is already taking government money. Taxpayer money IS going to FORD right now to help them develop new cars. It makes no difference if it's to stave off bankruptcy or to serve as a loan to develop the next government mandated electric car, Ford is on the dole, just like GM & Chrysler. So go on believing Ford is not in need of any welfare from the taxes you pay, but if you read the facts, you'll see it isn't true!!

I believe there is a big difference between what is going on at GM and Ford. Nobody is questioning that Ford has it's issues, but to compare them to GM and how they have been taken over by the government isn't fair. I'm sure that everyone remembers when the CEO's of the big three flew to DC to get some free bailout money, and were treated like children for not having a plan for the money. After that, Ford did what I admire, they said no to it and went back to trying to make their company profitable. Borrowing money from whoever they can get it is all part of business. The same is true with accepting grants and building the cars that the government requires of them. It's all a mess that's been created by those in Washington, but made worse by greed, poor decisions and lousy products. Of the big 3, Ford is the only one that I will consider buying in the future. I'm currently looking for a work van and maybe a duelly one ton flat bed.
What amazed me in the original post and the numbers of trucks sold is how few Toyota and Nissan sold. I see allot of those trucks around here, and just assumed that they were selling well everywhere. My wife and I did take a look at the Nissan, but didn't care for it. I haven't been in the Toyota, but have admired their cars and smaller SUV's.

Well said, Eddie, but I didn't say that the Ford situation was comparable to GM, I just wanted to set the record straight that they were taking billions in government funds. Of course GM is in worse financial shape and Chrysler is even worse, but Ford is by no means "profitable" right now. Buying only Ford because of that reason may reveal a disappointment to the buyer in the near future if they collapse, too.
What I am saying is that anyone who wants to laud Ford's "health" needs a reality check. That reality check is that Ford is losing billions/quarter and could need a bailout of their own if it keeps up much longer. The other point is that Ford IS subsidized by the federal government and would not be able to develop the cars the government demands them to develop without these funds. All the automakers are goverment subsidized, some more than others.
I agree with you. You'd think they were taking over domestic full size truck sales, but they're not.
As a commercial user, they do nothing for me. They look like they'd be great for the weekend warrior or soccer-mom type family user though and that's the most powerful market segment with the likes of the terrible recession not much commercial sales going on. So good on them for appealing to that customer profile. Commercial/HD trucks are dead right now.

The other thing that's a JOKE about those sales numbers is that they don't combine GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado together!!!!!!!! They're both made on the same assembly lines, yet they won't combine the sales figures. Don't you think that is stupid??
When combined, GM has 200,016 units sold to Ford's 179,632. That's about 21,000 units ahead of Ford.
Gimmie a break. GM sells way more trucks than Ford. Even in bankrupcty, more people buy GM trucks than Ford. GM may be unpopular and not well supported on this website, but the sales #'s tell me that Americans still love GM trucks, even in bankruptcy.

Let's see, if you add the Silverado sales to the Sierra sales, same truck, same assembly lines, same General Motors, there's twenty thousand more vehicles sold than made by Ford.
The percentages down are close and what hurts the Ford position, is they have the latest edition of new trucks out there. Their F150 is a newer version of their truck than the Silverado/Sierra version is of the GM brands.
Usually the latest and greatest leads the sales in trucks for the consumer market.
What I see is two forces at work in the truck sales. There are those who have to buy a new truck and are going for the latest greatest. Then there are those who are bargain shopping. Ford, Chrysler, and GM are having fire sales. That would explain the narrow difference between Ford and GM sales and why the foreign brands aren't moving much. The foreign brands are not having the fire sales and neither one has a latest greatest model hitting the market right now.
The big three have always been hand in hand with Washington. The only difference now is Washington has taken the lead position in their dance because the big three weren't light enough on their feet when the music changed.

i have a GM 4500 truck and have been very impressed by it. the 3500 i had before was easily the best truck i have owned. i also have a ford. can't argue with the 260,000 miles and growing it has. i am not happy with the gov't deal for GM but do think that the best way for the gov't to get some of the money back and thus not cost me more (tax money) is to continue to buy GM as long as the product is what i need. at this point i would rather see the gov't plan work out than to continue to see things get worse. i may not agree with it but will hope it works.
