What attachments did you THINK you needed but don't use much?

When i bought my tractor it had a FEL & backhoe on it, and i bought a bush-hog and box-blade, and i only used the box-blade a couple times in three years... so i sold it.

I think the box-blade was a waste of money, and i can do a better job with the FEL.

Another thing i bought that was a waste of money was a PTO-generator.... Because it kept my tractor tied up from doing other things, and i didn't like the tractor sitting in one place running on the 540rpm mark all day, and running up the hours.

Maybe I have taken the original post wrong. Some of you are saying that this implement or that implement is not needed because you can use something else, and that is fine for YOU. But I don't think that you should be telling people in general that there is no reason to get this implement or that attachment. Just because you have no need for something does not mean that that something is not going to work for someone else in someone else's circumstances.

Umm., yet, for tilling. A lot of people here use their box blades, and rakes to grade and maintain gravel driveways. I don't think that a tiller is very useful for that :rolleyes:

Back blading with a FEL is fast for initial spreading of soil, but I still find that I can do a better, faster job of final grading with the box blade. The FEL is one of those tools that is very versatile for many jobs, but not necessarily the best tool. I bought pallet forks for my B7100, but learned quickly that a rear fork on the 3PH is much better in many ways; it puts the heavy load on the much larger rear tiers (easier on the ground, and steering), it is easier to see where you are going, and easier to maneuver said item into position. However, the FEL forks are better if you need to lift something higher than 2 feet (like up onto a deck or porch, or stacking pallets).

To quote JohnThomas -- "Cha Ching!" :rolleyes:

How many times do you need to say the same thing?

yes..

How come some responders like Lbrown and jas67 seem to require many separate posts in a row, while others like archerm3 can wrap up replies to 4 posts in 1?

Do some people get paid for posts?

Is there some honor in wasted bandwidth?

I've only 5 attachments, but the least used is critical, a 3 point trailer hitch. I've only used it twice so far, but it was darned handy when I needed it. I'm also planning on getting a fire extinguisher and never using it.

Well, since I started this whole thing, I thought I'd better chime back in and say thanks for all the contributions. A lot of them have helped my thinking, as I'm just taking delivery of the new tractor tomorrow. It sure seems the box blade causes the most controversy, and I'll be able to tell more about that soon, as my list of accessories includes one ;

(1) Box blade - Eddie and others, I hear you, but I think my driveway will need more than the FEL to keep it looking and working right (photos to follow in the coming days);
(2) Loaded tires;
(3) FEL - I am sure it will be the one thing I use the most;
(4) Tiller - I have a yard to prepare and will be having a fair-sized garden every year;
(5) Rotary mower/bush hog type of thing;
(6) Pat's Easy Change System;
(7) Bucket Hooks (if you count those);
(8) Block heater, although it will be parked indoors in the winter especially, I want it to start for sure when it's needed!

I opted to try the snow clearing the first winter with the FEL, and see how it goes, before spending $$$ on a snowblower. Sure a lot of comments on that issue here too, mostly contrary to the way I am going for now, but I gotta try it this way first! Again, everyone, thanks for all your helpfu comments and suggestions!! :)

I usually don't do that. I was answering several different posts, I just did it at the same time. I guess maybe I should have read all the posts before answering then.

I think that LBrown does. Look at the number of posts that he has.

Funny. I was just wondering if they are both the same person.

Please be careful.

Wasn't in my original post.

Agree, as I posted before. Now, after reading Heywood Jannockitov's post I would have to add the size of the tractor would make a difference. As with me, a tractor with 3PT down pressure would make my PHD a completely different attachment.

You need a down pressure kit for your PHD.

I have some questions for you guys that prefer your FEL to a box blade. What type of grading are you doing with your FEL? What do you do when you need one side lower than the other? :confused:
