I have a B7800 with industrials and use the box blade pretty much. I have the standard 402 loader on the front. My question is when using the box blade will I have more traction (equating to draw bar pull) if I fill the bucket on the loader? Filling the bucket will transfer the center of gravity forward and possibly lighten the rear tires, but then it puts more load on the fronts adding traction.

It seems like I can pull more dirt with the bucket full, but I'm not sure.

Do you have a 4x4? If so then yes you can get more traction. What type of ground are you working. If a field then changing to R1's will give you a major boost in traction.

I'd recommend against increasing front end weight seeking to improve traction when using a rear mounted draft inducing implement. My reason is that the front drive of a front wheel assist is slightly positive vs the rear (by 10 - 15%). That means that the front will be pulling a bit more (attempting to cover a greater distance) than the rears, thus loading the front axle components relative to the rear, so your front axle components will wear faster. I'd prefer to increase rear wheel weight with ballast or wheel weights to improve traction.

You're other alternative is to reduce the draft load of the box blade by reducing the operating depth enough to obtain traction. By the way, even with R-1s you would expect to see some wheel slip (about 15%) as exhibited by a slight tire footprint displacement to the rear as your rig moves foreward. That is evidence of ideal load vs traction.

I live out in the Mojave Desert. The only two types of dirt we have is hard as a rock caliche 360 days a year or loose blow sand. R1's are useless for me.

The other 5 days are when it rains and then the caliche turns to a type of non slimy mud.

Your fronts from the factory on most tractors built today is from 0 to 5% although some manufacturers go to further extremes the ideal we've found is 2 to 5% max.

You are right that you can pull more by having a load in the bucket, it also makes it nice to fill in ahead of where you are going cutting the jobs time.

get r-1's that'l get you more traction.

When pulling rocks and logs with my little Kubota B7100 I always filled the bucket with rocks or dirt. It gave a lot of added traction.:D

I would load the rear tires. Either with cast iron weights or fluid in the tires. When you lower your box blade you are removing weight from the rear of the tractor. These tractors are front wheel assist and not a true four wheel drive. If you load your front bucket and are doing some heavy pulling you are puting a lot of strain on the front drive. Just my toughts.

When the box blade is fully loaded, the "pull" of the 3 point is above the rear axle or draw bar point resulting in a lightening of the front end (think slight wheelie). I usually get front wheel spin loss of traction before rear. That is why I was thinking of additional weight on the front might help.

Rears are already loaded.
