Mahindra Pickup Update

they would still it load with well over 20,000 lbs of crap send it down the freeway. It just took a year and a day to get up to speed...

That works just fine if you are getting paid to drive it.

It gets old in a hurry in a personal vehicle.

I still read a lot of skepticism about the power of this Maindra... In Europe we dont know any better, 15 years ago, when buying a 5 ton truck/van we'd be happy when we could choose a 120 hp diesel with a 3 iter engine with a turbo without waste gate (no torque)....

I have no doubt the truck will carry and tow well beyond its stated capability.

What happens when you get it out on the freeway with a 45 mph lower speed limit towing 5000 lbs behind a that tiny little diesel is a completely different story...

I am not saying its a bad truck, in fact it looks really interesting. Just don't trade in your F-150 on it.

If it says the towing rating is 5K or 6K, and you tow 5K/6K with it, I don't think anyone is going to have any problem with maintaining highway speeds with it, judging by the way the powers that be rate towing ratings in this country.

My 85 Elcamino with the 140hp 305 V8 has absolutely no trouble maintaining interstate speed anywhere this side of Pikes peak with 5000 pounds behind it. hp is hp and the torque this and torque that is equalized when it gets to the rear wheels with proper gearing.

I think I love this thing. I have been saying for years that somebody needs to come out with a midsize truck with a 4 cyl diesel like the rest of the world has. They do surprisingly well towing, with first hand experience in Europe and Cyprus. It seems that most americans have some kind of phobia about full pedal travel and high rpms on highway on ramps. Everybody wants to only give it 1/4 throttle like they do when driving unloaded.

Ask me about my friend that has a humpback 2006 F-150 from a misplaced pallet of fertilizer loaded on a flatbed trailer. F150's won't do it all either, unless you mean get horrible gas mileage.

Ford is bringing the Feista to the US this year, other than that I didn't recognize a single model you mentioned.

You need to get out more, I've heard/driven all but the Toyota model. Those Ka's are nifty.

Even unloaded, most people don't merge properly.
I know when I'm driving the Semi, I don't even think about pulling over for someone unless they are actualy trying to merge and give it some of the skinny peddle. so basicaly I almost never even look and just leave the cruise on. Those middle fingers sure hurt my fealings

My name is Chris, and I’ve been following this post for some time. I figured it was time I finally registered!

I have a blog that I write about what’s going on with Mahindra pickups and SUVs in the US, since I am a fan and plan to get one myself… whenever they get here. Looks like March now according to Cars India | Indian Car Prices | Buy Cars India | Car Buying Guide.

Many people have questions about whom and where the dealers are. I can say that news is scarce. I have contacted Global Vehicles USA directly myself, and I still have not received an answer. It is not clear where these 330 or so dealers are. What I have done on the blog is started to list known dealers in the US. I want to invite anyone who has an interest in Mahindra trucks to check out my blog. The address is Mahindra Planet , or directly type in Mahindra Planet

If anyone on TractorByNet knows of any other dealers, please either comment on the blog, or email me directly. Christian.winfield@mahindraplanet.com and I’ll get them listed. Two dealers (MahindraNC and Mississippi Mahindra) are regular readers of the blog and do post comments and contact info.

I try to keep the site updated with news as I find it. Again, I invite anyone to submit news or other Mahindra truck items of interest and contribute. Hopefully we will get more dealer news soon!

I hope this isn’t too much blatant self-promotion and can help with some questions! Thanks.

Chris: Any mention of a Launch in Canada?

I think they should have came here first :p I think were more diesel friendly than the US.Our emission regulations arent as strict (California emissions). Plus we might be a little more open to foreign brands. Smart had a very successful launch here before they went to the states.

You know, I do not know what their plans are for Canada. I agree that it would've been a more logical North American market entry for them in many ways. They are very focused on the US, and maybe that is hurting them a bit.

I also agree with some other members, I wish they were bringing in a more basic version of the trucks. I would love to see a manual transmission option... even a manual t-case and solid front axle would be fine with me, espeically if it took another 5k out of the price! I will pass along what I find as I find it.

BTW: We vacationed for 2 weeks in Nova Scotia last summer, you are one lucky guy! Incredible.

Thanks its beautiful country. Sometimes we take it for granted.

I wonder if Mahindra ever reads these things. Id love a stripper  with manual hubs, tcase and tranny. Keep the price down and possibly be more reliable.

newbury:VW still does they just dont sell it here. check out the VW Amarok Coming in late 2009 to everywhere besides north america:mad:

Personally id rather have a VW Doka Syncro. With the Pritsche bed. Fold down sides are a great thing. Why dont we see those here? Ford and the rest go through the expense of adding steps etc. when fold down sides would give access and make the vehicle way more useable. When i made my utility trailer i gave it fold down sides. I cant say enough about how much better it made it, especially when loading with a tractor or forklift.

There used to be 2 DOKAs locally. One was the former VW dealer parts truck. Loved it. Dont know what happened to the second. THey were pretty rare and the survivors sell for ALOT. Like mid 20's
