i have a bx62 on a kubota b7800. i know the tractor is minimum horse power for chipper. Would a hydraulic feed allow to slow feed so id don't just take a couple big bites and stall. it will handle 4 inch soft wood with out to much problem, any thing bigger needs short pieces , up to max capacity chokes it out almost immediately?

Yes, hydraulic feed does allow for a variable speed, at least on my Salsco it does. It allows me to control the size of the chip. The slower it goes the smaller the chip. Don't know if it would help with your power problem. Since I have more horses than you it's not an issue for me.

Yes, the hydraulic feed rollers have a flow control to allow you to set your feed rate anywhere you want. You may not like the price of the hydraulic feed kit for your chipper though......... the better part of three grand. Its a simple bolt on with a few bolts though.

as ductape said it will work. But you still won't be able to go above 4" with your pto hp. And that only for short pieces.

It will stop the tractor drivetrain shutdown issue, but a slip clutch would do that for cheaper.

On the chipper I used, slow feed speed just gets you more cuts per foot, not lower chipping power. The number of cuts per second stays the same. To prevent stalling, the feeder would reverse when the blade speed got below a certain point on the machine I used.

you really turn 4"+ firewood in to chips? For the time it takes to chip that size material on such a small chipper you could break it down to firewood chunks and toss it in a pile. Even if you dont burn, its worth $10 on your local craigslist.

do you really need a hyd motor. You could install a free wheeling drum with a brake and weight system to slow down the feed. Put knobbies on the drum if you want.

Dear Sir
I am running a 5 inch chipper shredder on a kubota L2250 23 PTO hp, as the cutters dull they stop taking aggressive feed rate, so when they are first sharp they really bite, half way is the nice feed rate, when they are dull I have to push wood in the 4inch range down the chute. So try dulling the cutter slightly, I have resharpened mine severel times, that is how much wood I have put through.

Sorry - I am with schmism.I really don't see the point of wasting wood that is 3" or bigger in a chipper unless I was running a chip farm for pulp mills. Sure its faster to clean up, but with the way enconomy and dwindling forests, I'd like to make everything count if I can.

I chip a lot - I have more firewood than I can keep up with or give away, and I need the mulch.
