The things we find to do now that we have a tractor.
Thought folks would like to see the pictures?

We needed to find the spectic tank to get it pumped out and knew only that it was deep and close to the laundry pole.
After 3 days of digging, getting to maxium depth of 6 feet with the loader, we rented a metal detector. I was within 6" of the tank. Close enough and no damage to tank.

I don't know if a backhoe could have found it without damage? But I had fun digging and am now getting good with the loader.

Maybe a pond next year?

Now measure from two corners of your house to the center of the tank cap (or three points so you have depth) and make a diagram so next time you know exactly where it is Or get some collar extensions and bring the tank access up to ground level, or at least close to it.

Or just have fun with the tractor again

Looks like you had fun. If it were me I'd build a man hole cover that came to the service, you can allways put a flower pot etc on top to disguise it.

If you plan to do that type of project in the future I would be sugest a toothbar.
You would be surprised at the difference it will make you tractor perform.

A bit late now, but the driver could have found it for you without digging the hole. Of course where is the fun in that. Just had my tank pumped a couple weeks ago, 2 small holes over the covers and thats it.

Boy that tank is deep. Are tanks are right under the ground around here. One thing is for sure you could drive over your tank without fear of crushing it.

Anyone know why the tank is that deep? Maybe someone forgot about it when landscaping.

I did something very similar a few months back
I had a water line leak, I found the leak with a probe then carefully dug down to it with the FEL. I could'nt believe it it was 5ft deep! I figured it would be maybe 2-3ft when I started. I dug some then probed some over and over until I got to it. It busted on a coupler I'm not sure how long it had been that way but the ground was wet on the surface and the well pump would'nt shut off, that's how I fugured out it was leaking.

I've never seen one above ground.
