I keep all my owner's manuals in a big manila folder in a file cabinet and I staple the receipt to the cover of the owner's manual. Don't often need it for the warranty, but it is interesting to go back and see what I paid and when.

If you get a rigid tool from lowes or the like (someplace that uses thermal receipt tape) make a copy of it, otherwise the receipt will fade and they will deny the warranty claim.

Wow I never thought of that. It is a great observation. I would probably make 2 copies and even scan it into my computer and save the scanned image to cd or dvd.

No problem, that is what the guy at Home Depot told Dad when he bought the drill. I would guess that had several people who had claims denied due to unreadable receipts.

It is a real problem and I keep my receipts..

Had a receipt for a electronic dog collar that went bad withing the a 1 year warranty...

Took it back and the receipt was not legible to the naked eye...

I was told they couldn't honor the warranty...

That's when I said they will have a chance to tell the Small Claims court why in about 4 weeks...

I was not in the mood to play games... the warranty said to return to place of purchase with receipt within one year for replacement... I can't help it if the store uses paper that self destructs and then uses that as the reason to deny coverage... maybe it should be treated as an unlawful business practice contrary to public policy...

Anyway, I walked out with the new collar and made the manager copy and sign a duplicate receipt.

Yes I also am obsessed with keeping receipts, but my wife now knows why.

My shop had a break in and they stole darn near every tool I owned, going back some 40 years. Most tools were purchased in the last 10 and sure enough the insurance wanted receipts for EVERYTHING, hoping I could only come up with teh most recent.

Well, when I dropped copies of receipts doing back 10 years and adding up to 16K all he could do was pay up, and he did.

Another little trick I do at the register when I have to buy the last product that was obviously opened, I make the girl at the register sign her name verifying that the product was already tampered with. Sure enough all the parts were not in the box and the return was made simple with the register receipt from REGISTER #1.

I noticed that someone mentioned to run the batteries all the way down prior to charging. It is important to mention that this is NOT true with lithium ion batteries. Nicads yes, Lion no! This includes cell phones, ipods, cameras, computers, ect. This will shorten the battery life.

When searching for a new drill and driver I placed high importance on the torque it could provide. My ryobi lithium impact driver is rated at 1500 in/lbs which is just as strong or stronger than the big brands at half the cost. It will sink 4 inch 5/16 lag screws with no problem without predrilling. Also great for driving tapcons (NOT IN SILL PLATES) as the impacts prevent breakoffs and stripped heads.

Dewalt 18v XRP have been good to me and im REALLY hard on gear. Only issue was the crappy chuck that DW upgraded (free) to a proper Jacobs impacting chuck that holds bits excellent. The upgrade was a all metal chuck.

Dont get suckered into those deals that have a 18v dewalt drill and impact for 199. Theyre not XRP. Theyre no better than any of the other homeowner grade Black and decker etc.

I have lots invested in Dewalt so im tied to them. If i was starting over i like the new professional grade Makita LXT Li-ions .

Avoid the 36v. Way too heavy. If you need that much power, break out the extension cord.

I should add that i have a Bosch impactor, that was free with a table saw. Its also been a good cordless. Bosch makes good tools , i have a bosch table saw ,router and hammer drill too. No issues with any.

But Dewalt is the tool of Macho Men anyways

Yes I was talking about that thread. I love tapcons for other purposes though.
