i sure am glad neither of my '92 dodge cummins has any of that emissions garbage....this is why i will not, and cannot, ever buy a modern diesel truck. i think it would be more of a pain to take the thing out, then reinstall it for inspections, blah blah blah. i am sure there is some dumb law against removing it. if it is such an issue, why would you buy the truck in the first place?

Have to agree with you I have a 90 and a 95 wouldn't want a new diesel truck given to me. I don't think that cutting the fuel mileage in half with a DPF(so your using twice the fuel) is the answer to cleaner air.

From what I've read / understand . If you remove any of the emissions parts( junk) you viod your warranty

I am so glad I live in a state that has no inspections of any kind. Although the only thing I have that isn't emissions legal would be my motorcycle, I just glad I don't have to put up with the hassle.

I am not thrilled myself about the extra emissions controls on the new trucks, but the two trucks I have had post-DPF have run pretty darned well, even with the "emissions junk" on them. In addition, one of them gets better fuel mileage than any truck (gas or diesel) I have ever owned, which somewhat disputes that the DPF trucks cannot get good fuel economy. To each his own, but personally it would take a lot to get me to pull my DPF off and take the chance on failing inspection, voiding manufacturer's warranty and have it maybe not work out as I thought it might.

I don't like the complicated emission controls but I won't do anything to my truck to void the warranty. My '08 F-450 runs like a scalded dog and does a regeneration about every 300 miles. It's not enough of a bother to even think about altering the system.

When I purchased my chevy diesel I was actually looking at the older c/k body style to avoid the dpf. I actually looked at a leftover dodge mega cab with the 5.9 cummins first. If it wasn't for the dealer playing games and trying to work out a deal on an already sold truck I would probably have bought it.
I got every excuse when working with them on why they couldn't look over my trade in. The reason was the truck was sold since they were pretty sure I wasn't just kicking times. I will never buy from Rothrock in allentown, Pa again.

I checked quite a few message boards prior to my purchase and ended up with a LMM duramax with the DPF, once the powertrain warranty is up, 100,000 miles, I might consider a dpf removal but that will probably only happen after the system fails, till them I'm happy with it on and I still have a warranty.
For the life of me I really can't understand why people want more power out of these engines, they run like scorched apes regardless of brand. Towing is a dream today and when pulling hills I can sometimes understand how people say I forgot that I was towing something. If it wasn't for the harder ride I could understand it. Unless people are towing for a living it seems that the only thing more power is going to give them is a shorter period till the rear tires become slicks when running empty. When my truck was a few weeks old I had a load of 2b stone on a trailer. Shortly after pulling out of the quarry, maybe 50 yards, my rmp's shot up, at first I thought I had tranny problems till I hit the next strip of water running across the road, maybe another 50 yards up. It was both of my rear tires breaking loose while towing.

Why? Because, since the invention of the automobile, people have been hot rodding.

Same as hot rodding a Viper, a Corvette, or a Hayabusa that already will break 195mph bone stock.
