That does make more sense about the dye. My buddy must have had it backwards. But then again MA is A@@ backwards anyway.

Much easier to test for the presence of the dye than the absence of it.

in the case of the bus co ,they must be in a class as being off road, do to the fact that the internal revenue service checks on highway trucks all the time by sticking the truck tanks on the highway (scales, road checks etc) so if a highway truck buys diesel in mass comes into connecticut or new york you will have the red dyed fuel?..thats a no no..the fine in ny starts at 100.00 per gallon

In New Jersey off-road is dyed red and road diesel is clear. I know this for a fact. I buy both all of the time!
Yes, there are BIG fines for using off-road diesel in an on-the-road diesel.

Isn't the fine based on the capacity of the truck? So if you have a 200 gal tank you will be fined as if it was full even if it only has 5 gallons in it?

word is that DMV is developing a sniffing device that "smells" the exhaust when a vehicle drives by using illegal off road diesel thus probable cause for pursuit and checking hard copy.
Even a little red dye is enough to contaminate the whole contents of a tank of diesel and potentiate a huge fine.

I remember reading somewhere that school busses and maybe some other government owned vehicles are exempt from the dyed diesel rules. IOW they CAN legally run red dyed diesel in a school bus.

I'm a diesel newbie.... Can someone recommend a safe cold weather mix percentage of say number 2 and kero? I'm assuming home heating oil isn't mixed for winter use.

I use to go 50 50, but it is way cheaper to go 100% ag and add fuel anti-gel conditioner and injector cleaner......... a gallon of that stuff will treat a 300 gallon skid tank and it is way cheaper and easier to get a hold of than the kero.

My oil guy "wouldn't deliver only 100 gallons of kero". I told him he could "keep it" if he didn't want to sell it to me.
