I gotta say, I dont like the hydro trannys. I like being, not nessecarely(can someone help me on spelling?)in more controll, but more in synch with the machine. You get a better feel for the machine. And, just pushing a pedal is no where near as fun as selecting a gear, letting out the clutch, figurin' out that gear is way to high, pickin the right gear, and getting that clutching just right:) just my thoughts.........

I'm not saying they're identical, but if you're concerned about cvt reliability and use with high horsepower, google Fendt. They've run them for years. That's who got Deere and the rest into the cvt rage. If you can afford the price, I guarantee you will never go back. (I operate a high horsepower Fendt through the harvest season.)

A mechanical CVT will be considerably more efficient that a hydrostatic transmission because much less enengy is converted to heat.

Reliability and durability of CVT transmissions is well established in low HP applications but the jury is still out when applied to machines such as the Boomer 8N (50 HP).

Though the designs may eventually prove both durable and reliable, I certainly will not buy one for several years.

The Fendt Vario hit the market back in 1996, and have more than proven their durability.

There are some guys around here that would disagree with that.

Weren't those BIG, VERY BIG - Fendt tractors on that YouTube video pulling that enormous subsoiler that rolled over a slab of sod the size of an aircraft carrier deck..?!!? :D

Got a link?

Could be though.

The guys I was referring to shelled out several Fendts IVT pulling huge liquid manure spreaders. May have been a fluke and/or operator error but they went to articulated Deeres after that without problem. Then they got smart and ditched the tankers and went to a hose system.

I could be wrong... but that looks like a "high-torque" application!! :D

'Spose they're CVT or IVT or..?

This has been a tough thing for all of us to keep up with since there are so many mechanical variations of CVT, IVT, etc. The CVT used in the compacts is totally different than the implementation in the T7000's. As was said, in large Ag tractors its basicly a powershift with a hydrostatic motor used to vary speed within the range, the compacts its more like the belt drive CVT we're all used to, but its done with metal chains and hydraulic pressure.
