Thanks Greg
Will take look in the morning, but I am kind of thinking from memory it is flat so they are at the widest setting already.

Another problem that I saw on another post was the problem with the front wheels losing air. Come spring may need a tube installed because they lose air weekly and it is a pian having to top them up each week.

Hello Chris
That wasn't a very good explanation I gave you about the wheel center.
I maybe should have said convex (outward) and concave (inward). Whatever the term,I think you know what I meant:)

If you have this problem, go to your JD dealer and ask:) to see the service manager. Tell him your lift arms rub you tires. Have him go to the 2520 on-line parts book and look up the lift arms. He will see the "early style" or straight arms, and he will see "new style" arms that are curved like the 2720. There must be a note in the parts book about the life arms because he simply said: "I am ordering you two new lift arms and we will also cover the labor. I just need the old lift arms back." They sent a mechanic to my barn today and changed them free of charge. That is why we bought a JD in the first place.:)

Folks,
Maybe I am odd, but my property is reasonably level and with the snowblower and box blade 54 inches wide, I think having my tires at the narrow setting is ideal. When I called my dealer and mentioned the rubbing and the DTAC, he said it only covered the R4s and doesn't mention the turfs. Still, he said he could schedule a service call to check it out.

I understand the issue is much worse on the R4s and the rubbing is much less damaging on the smoother edged R3s, but there is precious little room on my turfs as well. And don't get me started on fitting chains in there...

So, how many out there have had the dealer replace the arms on 2520s with R3/turf tires?

Thanks, Ray

PS I am using Pat's Easy Change and have no desire to move to the IMatch due to a couple non-standard implements.

Hello Ray
IMO,it shouldn't matter which tire you have. There is a problem and it should be corrected. With R3's you don't have a rubbing problem...fine,but what if you wanted R4's after a couple of years and your warranty is no longer valid. Tough luck Charlie:( As for chains, with the old arms, you're going to have a clearance problem no matter what tire you have.
Being that a tech came to the house and verified that I had a rubbing issue might make it difficult to get them to agree there is a problem if you have R3's,then again maybe not.Everything might hinge on how well your dealer cooperates with you:)

Finally got to look at the rear rim today while I was using the tractor and yes there is a " convex " or raised part of the rim if I remember just on the outside of the where the wheel bolts are. I get the clarification so based on that I would think that if I changed the wheels/tires from side to side it would give a bit more space but I don't know if it would be enough. Today when I was using the blower and I am going straight there is no rubbing but if I make a slight turn the draft arm moves and starts hitting the tire (R4)
I also use the load in combination with the loader and even backing up causes the arms to rub at times. Hopefully in about 3 weeks or so it will be safe to take the blower off and I will have the spring and summer to take up the fight with JD because I sure do not want to go through another winter with this problem.

I will try to get more details when I pick up my machine from the dealer. What I was told is that the early 2520s had a minor problem in the front axle. (possibly a seal leak?) The recall was based on serial numbers, so newer machines may not be affected.

My PS acted the same from day one. According to most 2520 owners, at idle, the steering does not perform well.

My PS slowly got worse until I had steering issues at full PTO speed while cutting grass. This was with the FEL removed and just my finishing mower hanging off the back. Turning to the right was very stiff while to the left it was just slightly stiffer than normal. I started noticing this after 3 or more hours of operation, but when cold it was back to normal.

By this winter, the PS had gotten bad enough that after working the machine for only 30 minutes, the steering was hard to the right even with engine RPM up.

For the Records, My dealer apparently will cover the following on warranty (no charge):
(I'll provide more details on exactly what was replaced ASAP)

Front Axle recall
Power steering problem
FEL Joystick linkage (sloppy)
3pt lift arms upgrade

OK,
Finally got everything stariaghtened out with the dealer & JD.

Here is the additional info:

Front Axle recall
Apparently just an inspection for cracks. Recall does not specify the reason why.

Power steering problem
Dealer performed full diagnostic, removed and cleaned steering spool, Adjusted PS pressure to max spec. I have been told that if problem persists, JD will replace complete transmission because PS is integral to tranny & dealer is not equipped to open it and do repairs. I have been given a 3 month warranty extension to evaluate the repairs and determine if the problem still exists.

FEL Joystick linkage (sloppy) Dealer replaced most of the linkage, bushings, & pins. Joystick is now as tight as it was when new. There is still some freeplay, but not excessive.

3pt lift arms upgrade Dealer filed a claim for replacement per the DTACH & regional rep refused the claim. I called JD HQ and filed a complaint which resulted in the regional rep calling me a few hours later. I discussed my draft arm problem with him for over 15 minutes at which time he agreed to replace them. 30 minutes later, my dealer called to inform me that the arms were ordered and I should have them by week's end. They also told me that I can keep my old arms!!!

Overall I'm very pleased with the service & support I have recieved from JD. Occasionally it might take a little bit of polite complaining, but in the end, I have always ended with satisfaction.
