Hi Everyone,

The quotes for a new BX2660 with a front end loader are starting to come in. Here is what I have so far. One dealer asked not to be recognized, so I won't mention any of them.

Dealer 1:
40 miles away, 14,800, no tax or delivery. Says this is where we need to be, final. Will not move on the price any more.

Dealer 2:
Internet, 12,850 + 650 delivery, no tax = 13,500. May be able to reduce shipping cost.

Dealer 3:
5 miles away, 13,400 + 871 tax = 14,271. Filled rear tires. May be able to come down some more.

Dealer 4:
Internet, 13,598 + 400 delivery, no tax = 13,998. Will throw in free block heater, rear work light, loaded rear tires or wheel wts, full tank of fuel & hats.

Dealer 5:
Internet, never got back to me.

Dealer 1 was just throwing numbers at me and didn't care to talk competing prices at all. I need to go talk to the local dealer 3 and see if they will move down some more. If they can come within 300 or so, I will go with them. Having a local dealer would have it's advantages later on. Internet Dealer 2 is $771 cheaper than my local dealer but I am a little nervous about making an internet purchase on such a big ticket item.

To Be Continued,
Bruce

Most states require that sales tax be paid even if you bought out of state. I would guess that the notorious Taxachussetts would fall in this group.

Is this for just a loader or is there a mower deck also?

It's just for the loader and tractor.

It looks pretty close. My opinion would be to pick a dealer rather than a price. If the 5 mile dealer is good to get along with, that's where you should buy. More convenient now and in the future.

In a bigger picture sort of way, they guy 5 miles away employs people in the same community as you and pays taxes to the same area as you live in. You're going to shell out $14K of your hard earned cash. If it goes far down the road or out of state, you'll never see the benefits of that money turned over and over again in our community. If there's a big price difference that warm fuzzy feeling may not mean much to you, but if the local guy is competitive, support him.

Call Barlows. They seem to have the prices no one can beat.

The others can beat/match them, they just don't. They all pay the same price for the tractors.

Do what? You suggest someone pay more to a local person that wants to charge more than another dealer? Where does this attitude stop, 10 miles, 20 miles, 40 miles, 100 miles? Do you not do any comparison shopping on anything you buy?

Man, you can keep that warm fuzzy feeling. The only warm fuzzy feeling I'm getting from my local tax money is new camera's, placed at the foot of the steepest hill, to bust some poor old Lady - who's living on medicare - for going 5 mph over the speed limit. Then they send 50% of what they bled out of her to pay the millionaires who own the equipment.
I'd call Barlows.

My local Kubota dealer thinks he owns the area. He is the son of the dealer who started the business 75 years ago. I have bought before from his dad. I asked him for a price on a new tractor last summer, his answer was that all the prices are on the Kubota internet site, than he pointed out the window to where I could look at his inventory. When I called him back a week later with a lower price from the dealer about an hour away he told me it was not kubota company policy for another dealer to undercut him and he would report the dealer to the company; he would not bargain. Guess where I bought.
