.......... There are a lot of cars that just won't slow down using the brake against an engine at full throttle. Maybe if you are going 30, but by the time most people know what is going on they are going to fast. The brakes get hot and that is the end of the story on the brakes.

Right and if you pump the brakes you lose the power assist because an engine at wide open throttle has little to no vacuum.

I never could understand why so many people hit deer on the roads. If you watch where you are going, pay attention and look out I don't see how you can hit a deer. Must be just stupid, untrained drivers that just don't know how to control a car when they see a deer. They must just panic because they have never been trained on how to drive around deer. Just watch out, steer your car, use the brakes and pay attention and theres no way in heck that all these deer-car collisions should be happening.

I can tell you exactly how that happens as it has happened to me. Deer can run fast and they can be on a collision caurse with you across a field at night. Seen this during the day when I could see them coming so I know its about what happens at night. Older car head lights don't illuminate the berm very good so you can't anticipate whats about to happen. Also they can and do jump down onto the highway from several feet above the road. Basically if they are standing still and you notice them from afar of caurse you shouldn't hit them. But if they are hidding and then jump out in front or are running full speed no way you can react in time. My hit was so sudden I never even had time to let off the peddle. He came down from an imbankment out of pure darkness. Beleive me its easy.

Hold the presses, I may have to rethink my position on this, I actually worked for this woman today. Her phone was ringing off the hook from news people trying to get her to do interviews, even national news agencies. She says she doesn't want any publicity but she will never drive a Toyota again. I heard her refuse an offer from the dealer to give her an 09 Camry, not sure if that was just a loaner or a freebie replacement.

Look at the picture it looks like skid marks, there's no way this lady would of staged this, the only other thing could of been she stepped on the gas instead of brakes, but she swears it wasn't that, dealer is accusing her of that, but those look like skid marks to me.

Well, I just bought a new Toyota Camry this weekend. Bright red, the SE version, with the V6 and every option known to man....couldn't resist the 0% interest.

It's got the keyless ignition, but the shifter absolutely, positively allows somebody to shift into Neutral from Drive with the accelerator mashed. I tested it today in fact. I did NOT test the "turn it off by pressing the button for 3 seconds" though.

I have had a throttle stick wide open in an old Ford pickup. Kinda took me by surprise for a split second, but mashing the clutch and turning off the key came pretty natural to me, I reckon.

I do believe some of the cases are faked. And some may simply be driver incompetence--there's folks that mash the gas while swearing they're pressing the brakes. I realize there seem to be legitimate acceleration issues...still, some folks just can't do a simple emergency recovery operation.

Thanks but you must not have recognized my scarcasm.

The guy in CA should have been run off the road by the CHP.
You should always know how to stop before you go.

Perhaps this is Darwinism.

I'm reading a lot of these comments and can't believe all these Toyota lovers can't accept the fact that the cars have problems and are trying to blame it on the drivers. There is obviously some sort of electrical or computer glitch that is causing the car to accelerate out of control and Toyota should belly up to the bar and admit their cars have more problems than they are admitting to. I'll take my Dodge with analog gauges, manual transmission, mechanical steering, and a keyed ignition any day over all the electronic cr@p they are putting out today.

Yea me too, I am sure glad my 2008 Tacoma still has all that too:)

Fly by wire accelerator pedals have been in service for 10 + years, I belive the trucking industry may have been the first when the big diesels went electronic, I have not heard of a big truck racing out of control yet.
Toyota obviously has something wrong somewhere, I do find it strange that more stuck accelerators are coming out of the wood work all of a sudden.
The news media is sure having a hey day over it all.
