Hi all,
I have a Mahindra with a backhoe, the 3710 hoe. I went to use it the other day, and as soon as I pulled on one of the sticks, it just went "flop" in one axis. I took the stick out and apart. There is a white plastic piece that connects the linkage from the valve to the joystick. This piece is broken right where the end of the metal rod stops.
It is a cofle stick.[at least that is what is says on the side, that might not be the brand name...]

Any links?
Thanks all,
Patrick

I broke the same piece. KMW will want to sell you the whole control. I made a piece out of an old bolt I thought was same size as plastic piece, then welded rod on to it. It works but I have a lot of play. Realized bolt was not as big as I thought. I saw somewhere on here that control may be Nimco. Aaron

You might try looking at Morse controls. I haven't looked at them for awhile, but it seem like they had something like that.

Thanks guys. It seems ridiculous that you can't buy a part to replace a part that is broken....KMW has to get them from SOMEWHERE. They don't just grow on trees...
I'll begin a search.

There is a guy on here that made his joystick, I'll bet he could tell you where to get them. Maybe he well read this post or do a seach here on joysticks, his might come up.

Patrick,

Yep, it looks broken ;)

From your pic, it looks like the anchor "rod" is broken and the top part is still attached to the ball stud on the handle. Is that right?

1. Can you remove the top piece from the ball stud? There may be a pin holding it in, below the ball- if so, you will have to drive that out with a punch or something similar.

2. Do you see a way to remove the bottom part of the anchor? I don't have a hoe to check if it is threaded into place or held in by a bolt or pins.

Getting parts for the joysticks is not easy or cheap. The first thing I'd check into is removing the anchor and seeing if you can find the piece from a parts breakdown. If not, perhaps you can make a piece?

Depending on what you find, I have a lathe and may be able to help.

You might even be able to weld it back together, if it is steel. Some of the parts in my Nimco were cast, some were steel.

I would have guessed steel, but you'll have to look. It's hard to tell from just a pic.

Looking back at the pic, that's not the spool rod that broke, is it? If so, you can probably just pick up a spool? One of the hydraulics experts will have to jump in here to tell you how practical that is and how to do it.

Hope this helps.

If it is the spool that broke, then it is not practical to replace it even if they would sell it to you (which I doubt they would). Spools are lapped for a precision fit into the bore of the valve body, since there are no real seals in there to keep it from leaking.

The piece is actually plastic. I don't know what the correct name of it would be. It isn't a part of the actual hydraulic valve. The valves sit a foot lower in the hoe podium(?eh?) This is just a part of the joystick.
I tried to glue it, didn't work. Might have still had some grease on it. I'm going to break it down more, clean it real good (what should I use to remove all the grease residue?) then I'm thinking of drilling at an angle through the two pieces, countersink the ends of the holes and fill it with JB Weld. It seems pretty silly to me to put a plastic piece in amongst all that steel. But what do I know.
I'll get it some better pics tomorrow, maybe, it's been raining for days here and I don't have an inside place to work.

Thanks for the suggestions,
Patrick
