Best all-around grease

I don't use a lot of grease -- so I just want to load up the best all-around grease for the usages I have:

-- dual axle x 3500# trailer wheel bearings
-- tractor FEL joints, other tractor zerks, steering linkage
-- Ford Excursion / Honda Odysset zerks - mostly front-end linkage on the Exc.
-- 3 pt rototiller outside bearing (not the gear boxes - those get 85w140)
-- 3 pt finish mower - blade spindles primarily
-- misc -- smear some on other moving parts on the tractor (3 pt linkages, etc where oil washes off too fast)

Last tube I used was a Mobile 1 synthetic - red stuff. Price is not an issue -- at least in the $2 to $5 range (assuming there may be some wizbang stuff out there for $10 a tube which I doubt I need).

Is there harm by changing from one grease to another? I think I picked up the Mobil 1 at Autozone, but Walmart would be more convenient now for me. I think they have Mystik and some other generic, Supertech maybe. But if I can go to Autozone or TSC, etc and stock up, I'm good.

I have no brand loyalty with grease and just use an EP bearing grease for general use; whatever pail is at the store when I need more. My two cents on the matter is that when you change the type of grease you use, you should completely remove the old grease in case of incompatibility between the two; at least flush out the old stuff.

I don't know what types of grease conflict with one another...I just do it because that's how I was taught....and unquestioning obedience has NEVER done any harm, right?

At the very least, getting contaminated grease off equipment once in a while isn't a bad idea.

My choice for everything except disc brake wheel bearings in Valoline Crimson Red. At every NAPA. Philip.

The best grease for your equipment is a moly disulfide grease which is blacker than a black cat in a coal bin.

It also makes lots of black marks on your carpet if you track it into the house.

Any of the red greases are not as good as the moly grease for the equipment, but they are much better for your marriage because they are easier to clean up.

I use the generic red grease more often than required.

I been usen' power punch grease 'ngli-2' for a while now for everything. All grease points on tractor and FEL any and all tractor implements with grease zerks. On the vehicles U-joints, tie rod joints, ball joints, wheel bearings. Anything with a zerk gets it. Its tough, stringy, high drop out temp and a clear gold in color and dose not stink like other greases. Next most used grease for me is chevron ultra-duty. It has all the same features as power punch, just has a pungent smell and is red in color. Both good greases and used by a whole lot of heavy equipment owner/operators and farms around here. I too, grease more than probably required... I blame the ounce of prevention= pound of cure thinking

Just using grease is better than not, so I wouldn't worry about any brand specific. I would much rather buy an old piece of equipment that had the grease boots blown out and looked like they were dipped in a bucket than dry and looked like the factory was the last to touch it.:thumbsup:

Just avoid anything with graphite in it. Graphite is excellent lube only for hot condition above 212 F (like steam valves). Graphite is hygroscopic and will cause rusting.

At gasmanlng: Keeping things greased is a cheap insurance but I swear that some operators use as much grease in a shift as diesel.

I'll probably try to stick with the Mobil 1 the I've been using. It's 6.99 at autozone - a little pricey, but it's what I put inside a few things that would be a major pain to flush out (tiller, trailer wheel bearings, mower spindles).

I use Greengrease which is available at Advance Auto Parts.

Green Grease....The Best Grease Money Can Buy!....Just ask anyone who has used it!.....

I use it on everything with a grease zerk.
