Inherited a Ford 3550, have a few questions.

Hi, this is my first post here. I have inherited my Dad's Ford 3550, and I just have some questions since I know very little about this model. Any help you guys can give is much appreciated.

1. Can I run a PTO on this model? Right now it has a backhoe on it, but I would like to take that off and run a bushhog for the property.

2. How can I determine the year and VIN number of the tractor?

3. Are the FEL and BH seperate, model numbers? I noticed there are seperate service manuals for each of these.

4. What does the Ind stand for, as in "FORD-3400,3500,3550,4500 Ind 3-Cyl Tractor Only (65-75) Factory Service Manual"

Welcome to the site. You will find a lot of good info here.

1. The tractor may or may not be equipped with a PTO, a lot of industrial tractor were not because of the backhoe which tends to never be removed.

2. There may be a metallic tag on the underside of the hood. If not, there are three sets of alpha-numeric codes located on the implement mounting pad of the transmission just aft of the starter. Post that information here and someone will decode it for you. The tractor model number will also identify if it has a PTO or not.

3. IND = Industrial. Ford industrial tractors are equipped with a heavy steel radiator shell. Utility tractors, also yellow, have a "soft" shell.

Well here's what i could find. Do these numbers make sense to anyone?

Transmission: 2F0 can't tell if there is another number

HYD Lift: 2521A

Rear Axle: 2E27B

Above and to the left of Rear Axle is this number 2(E or F) 251

Above and to the right of that number is 2H09B. At least I think it's a 9.

The name plate on the front end loader has a component #19-638 and a serial#CL 10925

The name plate on the hoe stick is 19-551 and CB 03933.

Right under the shifter is this number: C3H(N)N7006-D. Couldn't really tell if the third was an H or an N.

Right in front and under the seat is the following number 9573-4033A.

Under the seat on the right hand side is the following number H20.9.73 under that is C5 NN 4024Y under that is MH.

the easy way to tell if u can run a pto is look by ur left foot wwhen sitting on the tractor and see if there is aleaver by ur hill if not it is not equipment with a pto shaft thrue the tractor and check and see if there is a lift top for a three point hitch

and to get the numbers u need to determine the codes look on top of the bell housing right where the starter bolts on and get them number there will be to rows one is the serial number which is a build code and will tell the features on the tractor like the motor what trans. if it has a pto the second will be a date code which will tell when it was made and what sift it was made on

Thanks redneckford, it will be a couple weeks till im back up at the property buy I will post them up when I get them. In the mean time I bought a service manual disc off of ebay. Hopefully its close to what I have.

that tractor is the same a ford 3000, 3600 models so the service manuals for them will work for everything but the front end that is the only deferince
