Rotella T(6) 5W40 in your tractors.

I just changed the oil in my JD Buck ATV. It's a rebadged BRP with a 649cc single cylinder Rotax engine. I really need the 40w protection for the summers here in GA, but the big single cylinder can be a bear to turn over in colder weather(25 degrees). So I'm hoping to get the best of both worlds and I don't put enough hours on the machine to warrant two oil changes/yr. Heck I could easily go two years since I only put about 25 hrs/yr on the machine. I know it's a deisel rated oil, but I've been told it should not be a problem in a gas engine. It's also SM rated.

Our 1983 240D showed about 1 mpg higher (3%) with Mobil 1 0w30 vs. Mobil 1 or Shell 5w40 that I'd been using before.

Both the JD oil chart and the 2009/2010 VW TDIs use Castrol SLX 5w30 synthetic.

As any owner of a newer VW TDI can tell you, (if they pay attention to the oil specs in the manual - VAG 504, ACEA B3, ACEA B4, API CJ-4, CI-4, API CH-4, or API CG-4; and VAG 507 in a common-rail engine), synthetic oils of the same viscosity are not all equal. In other words, you don't get the whole picture by merely looking at the viscosity and the word "synthetic" on the bottle. Mobil 1 for gassers is a good oil, but it is not recommended for all diesel engines.

The Mobil 1 ESP (which meets VAG 507) is expensive, but highly regarded by many in the VW TDI realm. Some of the specs, however, relate to the particulate filtration system that is not in tractors as far as I know.

I just noted the VW story because of their use of 5w30/0w30 oils as are also shown on the JD oil charts. No need for 40w, but 5w40 and 15w40 oils are the prevalent ones sold by the big box stores.

The Mobil 1 0w30 is a light duty diesel oil but mostly designed for gasser use.

To keep it simple I just buy the T6 Rotella for all the gas and diesel engines that I change myself. I have to be careful where I buy it. Some places (TSC) it cost $2 a quart more on the gallon size. WM has been 19.50 a gallon for some time so i buy it there since annual changes add up to about 10 gallons.

Chinamart, opps Walfart has Rotella for $27 for 1 gallon...It as 19 last year...You can sometime find it for 26 at autozone...

Over priced now and Amsoil 5w-40 is cheaper *ya and better...if you know people...I'm sold..

I have RTS 5w40 in my hoe as we speak,loves the stuff no leaks no usage it's a great well built GrpIII oil.

i go 250 hrs on this oil.

Just saying, I hope to god people are not paying $20 for 1 gallon of groupIII oil...I know the answer too..

Right it is some what over priced i agree but it's still a quality well buit oil,i use that and syn Delvac.
