Getting rid of grass and weeds in a driveway

Bottom line, roundup or it's next of kin, will be cheaper than anything mechanical, and cause less disturbance to the driveway (which seems like a positive to me).

Just need to get or build a sprayer boom that has spray nozzles that fit the job. Low pressure, nozzles close to the ground, and spray when not windy. At least that will give you some tractor time. :D

I use a flame device to scorch the leaves. It's only good though if there aren't tons of them to deal with. For lots and lots either give up or use roundup.

Winner!

I have found that adding gravel helps somewhat. I only get weeds when the gravel gets thin and the weeds can reach the ground underneath.

My back is sore as I type from spraying mine. Can't they make a pump up sprayer with a longer wand?

I use a towable 25 gallon sprayer, Fill it with used motor oil, then spray the gravel drive. I do this only once in the spring and it last all year. Plus it gives the light colored gravel a unique look. Careful though cause for a couple of days afterwards you can track in on the carpet of your house and your wife won't like that. The other good part about the oil is you can get it for free from any oil change or lube business. This is basically the same sort of thing the county and states use to spray on the asphalt roads to keep it bonded together.

Here is what I use to get rid of them. Is home made out of Gard rail post and R/R spikes. The spikes turn down to rake grass out . If it gets to bad I turn grader blade up on edge and go deep with it to brake up gravel then smooth it down with grader blade.

thanks all, I guess my point is i'm looking for an alternative to chemicals around the house and lawn. Discing isnt a solution, small rocks/gravel embedded in red clay, hard as roadbase is after a while. At the least it'd beat the devil out of the disc blades.
I'd rather not potentially deal with the EPA over whats essentially an oil spill if i sprayed with old motor oil.
box blade doesnt do well and the rippers are too far apart to be effective for my purpose.
I"ll think of something sooner or later.

@ Oldmax
something like that might just work, i'll have to study your photos a little.
good suggestion, thanks.

bal, you know pouring used motor oil on the ground is not a good recommendation. It's not the same as a more stable and bound asphalt layer. The oil will eventually make its way to your drinking water. If all your neighbors did it you wouldn't be able to drink your water.

That is the hype they want us to believe. I frankly don't believe it. We are being fed this stuff all the time now, and it is turning us into "followers" of the ill-made laws that we are forced to abide by. No offense to those that want to believe it. :)

Beenthere,

There is no debate on this. This is no government conspiracy so "they" can take away your freedom to dump endless drums of oil into public waterways. It's basic materials transport, it's engineering, it's geology, and it's illegal.

I don't even need a law to tell me that. It's just piss-poor watershed management. Your prior post on the other hand, is exactly the reason we have to have "ill made" laws. Unbelievably poor post.
