Golden Corral

Management is the key! The Golden Corral closest to us (25 mi.) was unusable for a time until a young couple took it over several years ago. They have made it into one of the best places to eat in the area!

We also like Red Lobster, though only occasionally (due to price). Last trip there (St. Joe, MO, 80 miles), service was way too slow. Manager came to check with us (without being called), we left with two free meals & apologies! There was a problem, it was taken care of! We'll be back! ~~ grnspot110

I ate at the Golden Corral for the first time last year. Man, what a great deal, plus they would take your old plate, no having to take it someplace, can have as much or little of something you want. Considering most decent places around here are about 7 bucks, this is a heck of a deal. I keep seeing ad's for it locally, but think the nearest one is in NY. Which is too bad, wish they would build one here. Also, Barq's Red Creme soda is awesome! Man, here in Maine we get gypped as far as good restaurants and soda!

We have Ryan's Buffets here. They are very simular to Golden Corral and they have very good steaks ( on the buffet ) that are all you can eat also for around $10.00.

I don't know of one in our area, but we've eaten in one in Waco a few times, and yep, they're good.

Same here. They built a new one last year within sight of the old one they closed when the new one opened. And we've always liked them. However, the last time we went, service was good, but they'd been advertising their "Festival of Shrimp" with some new recipes, so I had to try 3 of their new recipes. That was a mistake. I told the waitress that I had no complaint, I got what I ordered, and I ate it, but it looked a lot better than it tasted. And she told me I wasn't the first to say that.

We had a "clam bake" platter at RL several years ago, the more we ate, the worse it tasted! :( Was a trail menu item, never showed up again! ~~ grnspot110

Golden Corral is for sure one of the best buffet chain restaurants around I really didn't understand why they felt had to add an all can eat baby back ribs onto their already great choice menu.. as they already had 75% of the business around these parts, perhaps they're going for 100% ;) we used to eat at the local Ryan's( 2nd best) simply because the wife and I didn't care to stand in 30-45 minute line at Golden Corral, although I guess Ryan's could not compete as they closed down last year in the struggling economy,
the Baby back ribs will come to a quick stop just as the all "you can eat crab legs" did at the Ryan's...... I didn't care much for the Crab legs too much trouble for so little bite of food, give me a good-ol- med rare rib eye any day  but the wife sure like them legs :licking: she would set awaiting and watching for them to bring-um-out fresh and then attach-um:D,
Ribs is another thing I don't really care for, for such little food, I don't know what all the fuss is over, Nibble a little on a BBQ sauce coverd bone:confused2: give me a nice thick pork chop :licking:

Taco Bell currently has $2.00 lunches. You get a medium drink, a bag of Doritos and a choice of 4 different items. I choose the 5 layer burrito. The thing weighs half a pound! :confused2:

Also, the Dollar menu at Wendy's and McDonald's is hard to beat. McDouble and large pop for $2.00.

Burger King has their double cheeseburger for $1.00 also. The local Burger King franchise which operates multiple locations is reportedly suing Burger King because they are making them sell it for $1.00 and it actually costs them $1.10. They lose 10 cents every time they sell one.

My wife has a cousin who is a manager of a Golden Corral. I've never eaten at his restaurant, but I'm told he is a manager who always improves business at any restaurant he manages. He lives over 50 miles from his restaurant (with his girlfriend) and drives the 1 hr+ time to the restaurant each day. He says he does mental planning on the way in for each days work and uses the drive home to unwind and calm down from any problems that may have occurred. It works for him, but I'd think a 10 minute drive both ways would simplify my life a bunch. Oh well, everyone to their own. . . .

I've known quite a few people who drove 50-60 miles or more, one way, to work and back every day, but when I had 20 miles one way, I thought that was too far.

I use to know a few guys on the USS Carl Vinson who drove over 100 miles to work each day. Lived in Mondesto Ca. They looked forword to their duty day in which they had to stay aboard for 24 hours and not drive home.
