Run'd out of Diesel - B7800

From the B7800 factory repair manual. Looks like not a problem.
I take it from those directions it has an electric pump as the ZD series mowers - turn the switch instead of pumping up by hand. I suspect there is a bleed screw to deal with, although not mentioned there.

Well I did say "gas" - but yaw knew what I meant, got a trucker in the family and he always corrects people when they speak of "gas" and not diesel (when referring to his truck), but he still knows what they are implying...so....no big deal...

Interesting that most military flyboys still say that age "gassing" up thier planes. Guess old terms are slow to die.

The best part about running out of fuel once on a diesel, is usually that you never do it again. It's one of those coming of age / learning things with a fuel oil burner... school of hard knocks has tuition.. most good experience comes from bad experiences. :)

good luck on the restart.

if a gear tranny, sometimes it's easier to just pull start them after running them dry and bleeding.

On the JD backhoe the guy said just DO NOT do it but I did not ask why.:D

When I pulled the tank to adjust the valves on the 265 MF I finally cracked two lines at the injectors and let them leak until it started hitting on all four.

I can see where pull starting would work because just running on two cylinders the other two finally came on line.

We get diesel in 5 gallon jugs which I completely fill so I use a 2 gallon fuel jug to pour into to make the 5 gallon container more manageable. I never use even if I need a little to top off but keep it back so should an urgent need require the use of either tractor that was really low on fuel I could insure an hour plus of run time.

Kind of like someone saying "hot water heater". Why would you want to heat hot water?

The boy ran it out of go-go juice. I've heard the stories about having to bleed lines and not running so well afterwards. Anybody have any advice before we try to start it back up?? Hoping that it's a self bleeder and it takes care of it's self.

Thanks

The 2005 Kubota B7510HST I used to own is a self bleeder. Apparently so is yours.

Then there's the people that correct others when they call a whale a fish - "it's not a fish, it's a mammal", they'll say. Doesn't matter- they knew what they meant.

I got one side of the dozer stuck in a trench and it was low enough on fuel that it sucked air. I started off by cracking the bleeder on the water separator, it screws on from the top down so when diesel started coming out I knew it was close to the pump. I bleed it at the top of the injectors and it still didn't want to start. So I put some diesel in a spray bottle and removed the filter and kept giving it shots to keep the engine running until it would run in it's own. I don't think the starters are made to take the amount of time needed to fire it up without a lot of pauses to let it cool down.

Well, we all gathered around the "Big K", lit candles, said a simple prayer to Saint Plz Start, turned the key and like music to my ears she fired up...Wheeeeeew. Some kind of reserve setup would be nice, I'm to old for the stress. Thanks all.
