Golden Corral

The wife and I can't travel without going to Cracker Barrel. We've probably been in every one between the middle of Missouri and East Tennessee. Only hit one bad one, and that was in my old home town, and I think it was closed pretty quickly. They seem to vary only a little.
I think I've detected slight differences in things like the meatloaf.

Chuck, sounds like we've had very similar experiences. Only one time was I disappointed in a Cracker Barrel and that was for breakfast about 50 miles east of Dallas. But as much as I like meatloaf at home, I never order meatloaf in any restaurant; too many different recipes and you don't know what you'll get. Maybe part of that is because I remember when I was 10-12 years old, the school lunchroom served meatloaf one day a week, and it tasted so bad that the only way I could eat it was to bury it in catsup and eat lots of bread.

Ate at Golden Corral once...never again. Their food triggers instant bowel movements.

I think the original one was in Shelbyville, IN and it was closed for health code reasons. It had the same effect on me too!

I think we all know that wasn't Golden Corral. There may have been a problem with that particular restaurant, or maybe the particular items you ate, but you can't logically blame the whole company.

Of course, I've only eaten at one Blackeyed Pea restaurant and it was so bad, I've never gone in another one. Logical? Of course not. But we all do things that way, don't we?

We have a wood fired grill in town... I think they add MSG to everything. Ate there once and will never go back. There was a cataferia, can't remeber the name, in TN that was GREAT... Always looked for the name traveling I-40. Felt sorry for the cashier. Best damb food. Paid for what you got.

Management is the key! The Golden Corral closest to us (25 mi.) was unusable for a time until a young couple took it over several years ago. They have made it into one of the best places to eat in the area!

We also like Red Lobster, though only occasionally (due to price). Last trip there (St. Joe, MO, 80 miles), service was way too slow. Manager came to check with us (without being called), we left with two free meals & apologies! There was a problem, it was taken care of! We'll be back! ~~ grnspot110

I didn't eat at Red Lobster for many years because of bad service, bad management. finally went to the local one, it was great. It comes down to local management. Haven't done GC for awhile either, it's just always busy, which is a good sign.

Wood Grill has soooo much variety and they have ribs, steak, big shrimp, catfish, chicken of all sorts, chinese, you name it... And their ice cream tastes better than most - always gotta top off dinner with a big ol' chocolate & vanilla softserve cone. Their buffet is similar to Golden Corral - we go to both.

Used to run across I30 in Arkansas and loved to hit Browns Cafeteria in Benton at breakfast time. They had a killer breakfast bar and the only place on the road I could find that had chocolate gravy on the food bar. You ain't lived till you've had hot biscuits and chocolate gravy.

Of course if they operate under the Golden Coral sign then it would seem, Of Course that you would expect standardized service. Of course they are a chain and as such one expects standards.

I've never eaten breakfast at Brown's, but I've lost count of the times we've gone to visit my wife's family in West Virginia and when we do, we leave to come home early one morning, so we can spend the night in one of the motels near Brown's and eat supper there. The last time was May 21 of last year.:)
