Cadillac of tractors?

I'm not the only one, in fact wasn't someone on this thread talking about the whine?
Then there must be something wrong with it.
Like I said I work on and/or around turbodiesel engines every day. Can't even tell they are on there by the sound on the engine.

No, I don't like the whine. I've driven turbo cars, don't like them either.

First off, it's just plain logic, if one tractor has more parts than another it has more chance of parts failures.

Two, what will last longer, a higher hp lower volume engine or a higher volume lower hp engine? Has to be the latter. Will this happen to you, we don't know but I know which one I want to own.

Wow, I have to agree with the other posters; what whine?! The only diesels I have that aren't turbo charged are a couple of Grasshopper ZTR mowers. Everything else I own that is diesel is turbocharged; that's about a dozen or so engines. If you don't like a turbo, go gas.

I don't like gas I like diesels, just not turbo diesels and as I outlined above for seveal reasons.

I notice no one addressed my other issues.

How do you know you don't like a turboed tractor if you have not run one?

Did you ever hear a truck whine? Stop at a truck stop and tell me you don't hear diesel turbo whine.

Like I said, I have several issues with TD's along with whine. If you like them then I'm happy for you. I'll go with a normally aspired tractor for SEVERAL reasons.

Ya know, maybe you ought to take a look under the hood of all the semi tractors on the road. They generally run a million miles or so pulling a hard load and they are all turbocharged. I've worked in the heavy equipment industry and NOTHING was running without a turbo. Most of that equipment was run like it was stolen and 20k to 30k hours mean run time between any rebuild is normal. To be blunt, just like everyone else here is saying, if you don't want a turbo diesel it's only your personal preference. There is absolutely no reliability or durability reason to not run a turbo diesel. To proclaim otherwise is simply absurd.

That link pretty much proves my point.

You have to mod/straight pipe them to be able to hear the turbo.

Nobody here agrees with you. Please explain, with detailed examples, the "other issues". I'm not buying any "other issues".

I do like the turbo whine, it is almost like music to my ears, just a real soothing sound. Sometimes I will just park my tractor and pump the throttle a bit, just to hear that turbo spool up and down. However, what I like best about the turbo is the improved fuel economy that it enables. There was a time when fuel was cheap enough that having a turbo was really not such a big deal. I doubt we will ever see such a day again the way things are headed. So far, I have never seen or heard of a single problem with a turbo but I will admit that I was a little aprehensive before getting my first one. Since getting it however, I would surely never consider another diesel engine without one.
