Got an email from my local MF dealer, he has a 1643 and 1652 coming to his lot, should be there late next week. Pretty excited about taking a look.

Mike, do not take a look, take a ride:D (teasing you). While on the tractor, fell if YOU are confortable, compare with other brands. Do you fell ok with the location of all the controls, engine trottle on the steering, Pto, 4wd, loader, a lot of room .. etc.... run it , is it smooth, vibration, noise..front and side wiew....what are the standard equipment compared to others ( tilt steering, cruise control (hst), advance trottle on the hst pedal ( just like a car you push the hst pedal it will get more engine trottle), adjustable lower 3 pts links, etc... ) because for some others some standard equipment are options...take your time and feel it. How much $$$$ ... The important is how YOU will appreciate or not . Have a nice ride. Good luck. Roger.

Roger, don't have the price yet, he didn't respond to my request for costs by email. I know what they cost in Quebec though! I used to work in Ontario while my family lived here in NS, not afraid to make the drive!

ALos take a Powershuttle for a ride. You may be quite suprised how easy they are, not to mention the power advantage over the HST.

I do want to try both, have driven a few tractors with hydro and they're nice but I want to try the shuttle because of what I've read from people who have said they'll never go back to hydro now that they own one.

For basic operation, I've seen the fwd/rev lever, are there levers for range and gear, pedal for throttle / clutch and two pedals for diff braking typically?

Yes, beside the seat on the left side, there is a range lever - snail, turtle, rabbit, and there is the grar shift, and also a handle for the 4wd, up for 2wd, and down for 4wd. Left side clutch, and right side are split brake pedals, and to the right of the brakes is the foot throttle. Very nice set up.

See page 2. I love those pics.

Those are great pics, nice cab. Hard to tell until you are sitting in one but the foot throttle looks a little far to the right to be a comfortable position. From what I've read about the time MF has spent with the ergonomics of the 1600s I'm sure it must be a comfortable position for the operator, hard to tell for sure until your sitting on one and trying it out for yourself.

I sat in one, a 1635 just like the pics, and it is comfortable, and drives nice too!! Everything is nicely laid out. Was going to pull the trigger on one, but my job is still sorta shaky, so I am holding off.

It is a bit of coin, nothing wrong with taking your time though, it's half the fun. I've got the old 135 that works great so I'm not in a big rush, may wait to get over peak selling period for CUTs, only problem with that is there aren't many left on the lots here in the Valley by Sep / Oct.

Hey Mike just wanted to tell you that you cant go wrong with the 1643.We bought a 1643L back in April with the cab and enjoy being inside it on these hot days. And yes I preffer the shuttle over hyd especially if you are going to be using a loader. We use ours mostly for spraying and mowing in our 12 acre vineyard here in NC. The last tractor was 1974 when my father purchased a mf-135 with power steering and spinout wheels (a luxury I thought after riding a super A for years) We still use the 135 for prunning and transporting grapes from the field .Massey has come a long way as with all tractors over the years. This tractor set us back 28 grand with the works.Massey was offering the 72 month financing when we bought the 1643L and we took advantage of it.I have found no problem with it yet with close to 60 hours on it today.Massey has been good to work with us. The dealership that we bought from did not have any 1643 on the lot but dealer told me he would have one on the up comming Saturday. The dealership was close on Saturday but he told me to just call him on saturday morning and he would come in and show us the tractor in which he did.We tried the tractor out and I was sold on it after trying a Kubota out.Kubota could not touch the price on the 1643. As the old 7 Up commerical said "Try it You'll like it"
