At some point in the future I will be putting in about 1800' of 4 rail fenching. Where does one go to buy creosote fence posts and boarding (black in color)?

I know I can't buy the liquid but also can't seem to find any info on the internet about buying fencing in bulk.

Can anyone tell me what I should except to pay?

Historically Farmer's CO-OPs or bridge supply companies were usually a good choice. As for cost I have no idea what today's market is.

You may not be able to find creosote treated posts anymore.

Up our way they have banned creosote, not good for the environment. Haven't seen black fencing. We use round pressure treated posts, they are a light green color. Get our's from the local fence supply company, have all kinds of fencing material and posts. :)

I thought creosote was banned in the US in 2006 or 2007.

It is not banned in Europe.

The black fencing is asphalt paint. Adheres very well and lasts a long time. Should be able to find at Tractor Supply or some similar place.

Around here, most nice estate fences like you're talking about use 4X6 pressure treated posts and 1"x6" railing (some use pressure treated 5/4" boards; others use 1"x6" non pressure treated) then paint with asphalt paint. Best place for lumber is a local lumber yard that building contractors use. Better grade material for less $ usually than the box stores. Local lumber yard should be able to help you and put a quote together for all materials.

They do use a fence paint around here that is black. I was told it was a asphalt base and long lasting. Never had a need to look into myself. Nice look though.
