How do you hook your Log tongs to draw bar?

The problem is having enough lift height, putting safety concerns aside for the moment. I've got a 3400 Kubota, and I don't have enough lift height to use tongs properly. They have to have the end of the log off the ground to work right.

Since some posters have determined pulling from above the rear axle is fine, why not get yourself a boom pole & hang your tongs from that.

That pic is not on topic?

Of course it is. Thats what I said. The funny face was for all the other stuff.
This thread has been so rough on people everyone is way to defensive at this point. We should all lighten up.

I wouldn't recommend it, but it looks like that's just what some folks do! You know the ol' saying. Its all fun and games until...

I totally agree with you Jim. Logging is a dangerous actrivity and we have to be responsible for what we are doing. Wow, your statement hits the nail right on the head.
What set me off on this thread is that a large part of our society wants the government ( OSHA ) and manufacturers to solve or engineer away all this responsibility. If these folks would just open their eyes fo a couple minutes they would see that can only be done to a certain extent. Give these fools unlimited amounts of money to spend is when things go ridiculous. ( 100 warning stickers on a new tractor )
About my ROPS rant. I would not buy a new tractor without one, and I wear my seatbelt most of the time. My point was even a safety device can be dangerous.
Again, a good piece of wisdom Jim.

Just last weekend, I was shown a dead oak tree that is leaning towards the gravel drive (far away from anyones home)

It is a LARGE and very tall oak tree and it's also in the woods. There is no way this tree is going to come down without causing other casualties (tree) during the process. Now we're debating do we wait and allow the tree to fall on its own, however unpredictable (anyone care to drive through the fall zone twice a day?) or do we take it down so we can focuse our attention to the moment it falls?

If you can tell it's going to fall and cause you major traffic problems it's better to take it down when it's at your convenience. Find someone with a large chainsaw and several friends and get it dropped and cut on a good weekend.

Otherwise it can come down in a storm when there's bad weather and an emergency and you'll curse yourself for not taking it down.

The frustrating thing is it seems most people today do not understand or have a clue what you are trying to say. Couple that with lawyers who want to work the system and here we are.

I am a new tractor owner (Kubota B7100) and got the tractor for three primary reasons: Mowing with the 60" MMM; grading my driveway; hauling firewood from the woods on my 50 hilly acres (only about 10 acres even accessible). I have previously gotten firewood out with my small two-wheel drive pickup on "roads" I have hacked into the woods, or with my riding mower and its small trailer. So, I have read this thread with interest and careful attention. I have decades of experience living and working in the woods, chainsaws, winches, everything but a tractor, so this part is new to me and I honor the learning curve, preferring not to learn the hard way if possible. Sorry for the long prologue, here is the simple question: I am wondering if a pond scoop, mounted backwards, would allow using the scoop to shield the front of the log and lift it slightly while minimizing risk of rolling over backwards. As I said, this is new to me, so please help me out here. Thanks!
